hi guys! my hubby and myself thought about opening up a shop here, but unfortunately, when looked into the reason why there isnt one anymore was evident!!... the insurance to open a shop up in or by our house was extortionate... and we could never put low prices on the shop items to be able to cover going to buy them ourselves, insurance, wages, etc etc.. to how many people are in the village that would use us!!
A pub in Suffolk has opened a shop at the back of the pub and was also given a £5000 cash injection from Suffolk Council under the Rural Economy Scheme to help. They're using a girl from the village to run the shop for them.....
I was astounded at the public meeting last Wednesday when one of the South Norfolk Council members proudly announced that gipsies and travellers have more planning rights than the general population due to their status under the Race Relations Act.I think we should ask a travelling family to move into a prime location in the middle of the village and build themselves a pitch with an attached shop for us.That way we can get our shop and by pass the council’s planning regulations.
In response to ‘Keen Shopper” above, the Council needs to be corrected on this as The Race Relations Act gives equal rights NOT extra rights. The Act also says that minorities must not be discriminated against, which is a right and fair statement. To positively discriminate in anyone’s favour is illegal and discriminates against the majority.
……OH, AND YES… I WOULD LIKE A NICE LITTLE SHOP TOO.
We used to have a shop and Post Office in the village! Those of us who have lived here for a number of years will remember it well. Sadly, a death in the family meant they sold up and left.
Over the years Spooner Row has lost much of its character and facilites, trains actually used to stop every hour at the station, a bus used to also visit the village!
