Has anyone noticed the increase in disgustingly smelly lorries coming through our village every day? I am sick of every time I go for a walk about 3 lorries pass one after the other and I find it really hard to breathe. The only the thing you can do is breathe the stench in as it lingers for such a long time. I take it these lorries are coming from Banham poultry? Surely there must be another route they can take. This is not a usual countryside smell!!!
Unfortunately, Spooner Row has a designated HGV route through the middle of it, so this will be the main route lorries take to and from the A11. Whether the lorries are smelly, putrid, large, super large, noisy, operatate 24 hours, etc they will use the route through the heart of the village using country roads. When the Council gave the go-ahead for this in the late 1990's many people were upset and concerned - they even gave us a Public Meeting, but it went ahead anyway.
Why is the stench so bad? I feel sorry for the chickens, maybe the conditions they live in should be addressed.
Yes I'm all for animal welfare as the chickens are used as footballs anyway and not just at Banham poultry. What I don't understand is why these lorries are becoming more and more frequent.
