Am I alone in my life being made an absolute misery by the use of these devises?
It’s bad enough to have to listen to the damn things all day. Is anyone else hearing them going off all night? Particularly when there’s a full moon or little cloud cover?
We have heard it but generally haven't found it to be too much of a problem with the windows shut. A lot of the fields round here are farmed by Alston & Sons of Silfield, Wymondham. If the noise is a problem write to them (or the farmer concerned) and complain - their address is in Yellow Pages/BT Phone Book. If it can't be amicably resolved to your satisfaction then contact the environment health department at South Norfolk Council.
Over-subsidised, molly-coddled, protected from the real world the rest of us live in, selfish, inconsiderate, thinks the world owes him a living, thinks anyone else who lives in the countryside is a serf on his land - recognise that description? Yes of course - it's the Greater Spotted Norfolk Arable Farmer. (edited)
You can't tell them they can't use their gas-guns any time day or night - they have a crop to protect after all. Try waking them up while running your business and see what happens - South Norfolk DC will jump all over you. Farmers get stopped using gas guns early in the morning, late at night or all night? Not a chance with the Farmers (edited) controlling South Norfolk House.
No, just got to grin and bear it, keep coughing up taxes for their subsidies and don't complain

You would think the penny would drop really when it comes to the futile use of these gas guns.
For 10 months of the year they sit in the fields banging away doing nothing more than ruining the tranquillity of our countryside and annoying local residents. If any of the farmers actually took the trouble to return to where they had placed one after a few days, they would clearly observe hoards of birds not taking a blind bit of notice of the gun and carrying on as normal.
High time these farmers were made to comply with the same laws the rest of have to obey.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I can't think of any special law which allows them to disturb or wake up at first light hundreds of people daily for months on end. In wartime it would maybe be understandable in the national interest, but now it's all about profit for the farmer. Why can no other business ignore the nuisance laws in the name of profit?
What makes farmers a special case I wonder? Any farmers watching this like to cemment?

Spooner Row / Wattlefield / Bunwell area?
Personally, I have found the Environmental Health Department at South Norfolk Council to be very helpful and they have dealt with noise nuisances efficiently. I suggest you contact them and they will contact the owner of the land (without giving your details) and speak with the owner about the problem of the bird scarer noises going off at anti-social hours and other times. The environmental health officers will also give you the opportunity to monitor any further noise if it continues. Best of luck and I hope you can get some peiceful nights sleep!
