South Norfolk Council have announced (EDP Sept 6th) the start of another round of consultations at 13 different venues regarding proposals for housing and industrial growth for their area.
I was informed at a meeting I attended at South Norfolk Council offices that the consultations include the Spooner Row and Suton areas but not the Town of Wymondham which will have its separate Plan and Consultation.
Cllr Turner has many family pressures at the moment but is aiming to post the links to SNC's web site.
All 13 venues will have officers in attendance and relevant papers for the Spooner Row and Suton areas. For residents unable to access the SNC site I am listing 3 of the closer 13 venues.
Hingham - Lincoln Social Centre The Fairland NR9 4HW Friday 21st September 3pm - 7pm
Little Melton village hall, MIll Road, Little Melton NR9 3NX Tuesday 2nd October 3-7pm
Wymondham - Central Hall Tiffey Room, Back Lane NR18 0QB - Thursday 11th October 3-7pm
I regret that we were unable to have an exhibition at Spooner Row village hall.
South Norfolk consultations are a travesty. they don't consult, they just do. As a councillor who has been ignored like the rest of us over the traveller consultation I'm surprised you think they will listen to our views on any other matter. They won't, they will just pretend to go through the motions. Lets not kid ourselves. They are ..edited.. to the core.

Don't forget the SNC Consultation is being held in Wymondham on Thursday, 11 October, 3-7pm at Tiffey Room, Central Hall. Perhaps they will be kind enough to explain why Spooner Row has been separated from the rest of the Wymondham parish for housing allocations. Tim Horspole wouldn't give residents a special meeting as requested by Cllrs Turner and Hockaday to explain why - see Thread titled "Important controversial local issues". Could it be that Spooner Row is deemed for further development by doing this? The South Norfolk Local Plan Policies include promoting non-car based transportation, yet Spooner Row is many miles from Norwich where most of the work is. It is a bit unrealistic to expect residents to cycle there as an alternative. Also, the train stopping at Spooner Row 'halt' is extremely limited and if/when the 'halt' is used, who will be there to help non-agile passengers on and off Platform 1 when the signalman goes in December? Platform 1 is not very practical as there is a height gap of about 70cm between the platform and the train door - Platform 2 has a shallower gap.
Perhaps the Policy makers can also explain why the village of Morley next door has remained a 'rural village' but not Spooner Row. Both villages have very similar facilities (and Morley has a college). On SNC's Spooner Row Document it says that NPA Service villages "may be considered for additional development, if necessary". This Consultation is an opportunity for residents to ask questions.
Why bother. I'm amazed our councillors still have the idea that there is any democracy anywhere in this bit of norfolk. History tells us all too painfully that not a single voice or a mass of opposition from spooner row or suton will make any difference to the pre-prepared plans of the planners. Not even our (clearly powerless) town council are listened to. Planners are totally wrapped up in their own self importance and will use their powers to do what suits their own agendas and targets and their friends who are property developers and builders. Hence no meeting anywhere near spooner row and why the wymondham meeting (despite us paying our council taxes to wymondham parish) will exclude spooner row from its agenda.
My advice is to just not waste your time in a process yet again pretending to listen to local voices. never have and won't start now. It just allows them to tick a box saying they have consulted (not listened). Go to the pub instead and raise a glass to mourn the loss of our rural way of life, or get some land and befriend somebody in planning.
I think you are right. The mighty powers at South Norfolk won't listen to the small people of Spooner Row. It hasn't gone unnoticed by many people that all the Site Specific Options put forward for housing/gardens/etc by residents of Spooner Row, didn't make the final allocation. The two sites that did make this final allocation for the final Consultation stage belong to farming landowners who do not live in the village - they just own land in Spooner Row. Strange that!! I understand that the council considers us as contentious when we speak out on local concerns and issues, so I think we should continue to speak out - they don't deserve an easy ride when making decisions that affect us but don't affect themselves.
Don't forget - next Thursday 11th October from 3 to 7 pm in the Tiffey Room, Central Hall, Wymondham to see the District Council's consultation on its Site Specific Allocations and Policies Development Plan Document - this will include SPOONER ROW.
we were told it would not include spooner row..yet more confusion. Confusion is a powerful tactic when trying to wrong foot the enemy. and south norfolk definitely see spooner row and suton as their enemy. They have used smoke and mirrors and power of their office on us so far and will continue to do so. Go if you want, but deals have already been assumed by the planners so dont expect them to listen to anyone but themselves and their friends in the building industry. Oh and don't expect the town council to make a jot of difference either. ..they want to build on kings meadow and were powerless stopping developments between wymondham and hethersett. They can't even look after wymondham and they care about spooner row / suton even less. Consultation is just a box on a spreadsheet that they have to tick not a word they remotely respect or understand. Go if you want, personally I can't stomach the sight of officials treating defenceless citizens as idiots.
