Is anybody else a little annoyed that the new development on Chepore is asking for cess pits rather than treatment plants? Treatment plants are expensive to install but better for the environment. Isn't going for cess pits going back in time.
I thought that one of the conditions for planning permission at Chepore Lane was that a modern sewage treatment plant was to be installed before caravans were allowed to occupy the site. If the intention is to now have serveral cesspits, these will need to be regularly emptied which is expensive - will the council be paying for this? Cesspits are archaic and spillages can cause health and environment problems.
Planners have scurried away and unlikely to lift a finger now to sort out any planning violations. Never have and never now will. They won't care less as its not affecting them personally and thats how they make their decisions.
The old cesspit technolgy gets the Council go-ahead - surprising for a development of this size. The fact that a modern sewage disposal system cannot be installed at the Chepore site should have been established before Councillors voted in favour to grant Planning Permission. Several objections were raised from residents about sewage concerns at the time, but ignored. Is the council's Environmental Service going to regularly inspect the site to ensure that no spillage goes onto the land or in the watercourse? Its annoying that the concerns of local people are rarely taken seriously on any planning application or planning issue in this area, the council just does whatever it wants.
Are you sure you really mean cess pits as distinct from septic tanks? Cess pits are smelly and inconvenient because they require frequent emptying. A modern septic tank, correctly installed and used; not overloaded beyond its desighn capacity, is quite adequate for purpose. Also its final output is clean enough water to be allowed to filter into the local ditches, provided that the prescribed dsitances are adhered to.
