Dog fouling - report those not picking up
Permalink

Yesterday evening at around 6pm my wife noticed a male dog walker with two dogs and a young child in a pink top who allowed one of the dogs to foul the pavement at the junction of School Lane and Station Road, with no attempt made to clear up the mess.

The level of dog mess not being cleared up in the village seems to be on the rise.

Given the incident being so close to the School I am calling on any resident who may know who this may be to get in touch and for residents to be pro-active in reporting such people to SNDC.

Yes, and the same goes for people (you know who you are!) who allow their dogs to defecate on my front verge and don't pick that up either.  I do not enjoy having to poop scoop other peoples dog muck before I can cut my grass.

I agree, but please don't tar us all with the same brush! Being a dog owner and a parent I know how important it is to clean up after them. If we want to make the paths/grass verges mess free can we have more bins to put it in? There are only 2 proper ones in the village and they are less than 400 metres apart. Is this a local or town council issue?

The other option is picking it up and carrying it home to put in the bin or septic tank.  Presumably this is what dog owners do when they poop scoop in their gardens.

Thankfully the majority of dog owners seem to be extremely responsible but as with many things in life it is the minority ........

School lane seems to be where everyone walks their dogs & lets them foul everywhere just because there arent many houses, but this is selfish behaviour  of dog owners, if they have the animals they need to be responsible. I notice on one of the fields one of the farmers has put a rather rude note up. Why can't people be respectful?

The people who let their dogs off ( mums who have dropped the children off, and several who walk around Top Common) do they even know where their dogs leave their mess? I doubt it.Also there 2 dogs within the village that I am aware of who"escape" on a regular basis.Do the owners clean up after them? I think we should name and shame on here to get some response to this problem.

I don't think this is the place to start naming and shaming people.  If you know who they are then perhaps you should speak with them, or report them to the dog warden at South Norfolk Council as it is an offence to leave dog mess on a footpath - I think the Dog Warden sends out a warning letter first. Spooner Row is popular with dog walkers and it needs more dog poop bins to be installed.

South Norfolk District Council no-longer have a dog warden - they made her role redundent!

Dog issues now get passed around SNDC and often forgotten.  I tried to get the village another dog bin to help us all out, only to be told by SNDC that it was nothing to do with them and they passed it to Wymondham Town Council.  Nothing heard back from WTC -  so yet another Spooner Row issue forgotten.

I can't believe they got rid of the dog warden as SNDC! I would have thought that was an important service to the district - perhaps they should cut back on the district councillors instead.

How frustrating that WTC has ignored you on this. The clerk should explain himself, as the need for more dog bins cannot be an issue to be ignored in Spooner Row.  They wouldn't allow this to happen in the town.
