Hi, with the increase in rather strange incidents in and around the village over the last few months I wonder if there is any interest in starting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
We could do with something like this. It looks like some roads in Wymondham have successful schemes in place. Would there be anyone committed to take this on as a coordinator within the village?
Ah yes, another of those, I quite fancy this service being provided for me, but can't quite be bothered to do anything about it myself situations
If you think it is a good idea (which you imply you do by your response) then put your hand up and take it on, don't sit back and allow the same few community spirited people do all the work..... again.
Yes I totally and absolutely agree with you - its the same old community spirited people you do all the work - I know that very well. I have done a lot of voluntary community work for this village myself, giving much of my time and own resources. I think it would be a good idea if someone else took the lead on this for a change - if no one can be bothered, then so be it, I am well aware that there is plenty of apathy around here. It would have been kinder of you not to speculate that I sit back and can't be bothered.
Okies....as we discuss who may or may not be a co-ordinator ..let me just throw this info into the mix...
There are four steps to working out your group’s agenda (when you form one)
Identify problems. Figure out what the problems are in your area, ideally by speaking to local people.
Decide what you can do. Choose actions specific to the problems you identify. The section on safety advice and our case studies may provide inspiration.
How can you make it happen? Identify needs: money, time, meeting places, stationery, printers etc. Make sure members can commit.
Do your actions help? Adapt as you go. The group should write down and share thoughts on how well things are working.
