As a consequence of some exceptionally 'enthusiastic ' hedge trimming, two in hedge 30 speed signs have been damaged so badly in Spooner Row , by the chicane in Bunwell road and in Chapel road, that Highways have agreed to replace these, which will take 6-8 weeks. Ther former being a large sign at considerable expense
I am letting you know so that we can avoid duplicate reports being made , but I would have preferred to have not made this referral in the first instance, so to that end if anyone has any idea when this damage took place can you please let let Norfolk Highways know as ultimately we all end up paying for this.
If the signs are on private land the council should make sure they can be seen so avoid aggressive cutting by home owners who might damage them by mistake.Another option is to move the signs
I think homeowners are very unlikely to damage them as they want cars to slow down so are very protective of them.
Slashing machines however are designed to 'at speed' chop and trim hedges and are driven by persons who may not live anywhere nearby so are less careful. Of course it might be a lowly paid by the hour contractor or the hedge owner's employee but the signs are pretty visible and so one is left with the simple conclusion that someone is being careless.
Moving them is of course an option if there is room to do so and one would hope that County will consider this as an option
