From what I can see, all political parties are promising to build staggering amounts of new houses every year as part of their election manifestos. This to me seems to be directly at odds with how people (including me) on this notice board feel. I have seen nothing here, or on the wymondham ways Facebook group calling out this difference of opinion, but you can bet if another large patch of farmland is selected to meet this manifesto promise there will be uproar, so, why not? Surely now is the time to say 'we don't want your houses'

Dear Anon

as part of the GNDP and the new plan that is being worked up of the next 10 years , even though the last one was and is a abject failure to protect speculative development , they are calling for sites, and at the last notification the plan for Spooner row was not low or medium development but for 5000 - 10000 houses because we 'have regular public transport links and are on the A11 corridor'

I raised this as a issue and was told 'early days and not all will be accepted etc etc' ............. in other words' go away '.

The lack of housing is a political target and there is quite clearly a lack BUT without the proper infrastructure in place this is a nightmare in the making.

The CPRE have recently flagged  this up as an issue saying there is no need for new house building sites and developers should use the existing allocations first. Good point. They go onto say if more space is allocated  they, the developers  will cherry pick the good sites in order to maximise their sale potential and all of a sudden houses as prices are going down , building will slow to ensure sales at high prices as demand outstrips supply.

This is the practical reality of glib election promises but the problem is that farmers and land owners see pound notes , and so does the District council desperate to get in more rate revenue and get the bung called the new homes initiative, which thay can spend where they want and on what they want. So checks and balance disappear

I do what I can to stop this but District and now County are very business friendly and whilst we still have the population around here voting for one particilar Party NOTHING will ultimately change.

Anon, this is so true. The people in this "very typical" village are by far not the only ones around the country that feel like this about the large numbers. It just goes to show just how out of touch the political parties are with everyone else. They focus too much on Londoncentric views. Not sure I will want to vote now, I have had enough of the immediate countryside being concreted over for more housing without proper planning. Fed up and no one to vote for on general election day.

Thank you, Julian for doing what you can, but at parish council, there is very little you can do.
