I am sorry to say that that today when all levels of local authority are cash light this is yet another scheme being dreamt up by County to make money.
I suppose the only thing that can be said is that they are not the size of a large bus YET but as we all love the US and have to follow their lead in every respect apparently, it will most probably happen.
I am minded to oppose anything along these lines but cannot formally adopt a FINAL position, until the matter has been considered by the Town Council planning committee and discussed
I'm not keen on bill boards as they look tacky. They also cause a distraction so isn't it an extremely dangerous place to put three of them on a roundabout where two trunk routes meet? Motorists should be concentrating on the on coming traffic and other road conditions and not being distracted into reading what the advertising boards are promoting.
This application has been withdrawn. I am not sure why although I did note that it said , in the original application there are no issues with this proposal and no concerns. TOSH........... it stands to reason that you might be distracted by a sign and although it took some digging there is research to back this up carried out in Australia by Monash university.
Unfortunately the exact size of the boards in question and discussed in their research is not given in the summary, however I managed to find this on the internet but NCC failed to do so, who incidentally consulted with South Norfolk Borough Council.
It begs the question as to where they get their staff from and I suspect re enforces the adage that if you pay peanuts you get monkeys. This is a bit harsh I know but you have to remember that you pay their wages and appoint their councillors.
This need to make a buck at all costs, ultimately is Central Govt Policy coming home to roost, but selective arguments and evidence gathering to only quote and support what you want to happen is NOT good governance
