Parking on the junction of Station Road

Its an absolute joke to see the two silver cars are parking back on the junction of Station Road where a new pathway and crossing have been added. How an earth are we supposed to get on the path safely when these cars are mounted on the path and obstructing the veiw of small children crossing and pushchairs being able to get on the path. It won't be long before a serious accident happens!!

I can't believe that cars are parking on the pathway already.

Aren't they the cars which are parked outside the owners house and have been there for years? I.e a LONG time before the path extension.

And anyway. If they didn't park there, one of one inconsiderate pub customers would gladly take advantage of the space and not care about a dangerous junction if it means they can get some booze into them more easily.

There was a near miss yesterday as the car was totally blocking the safe crossing and caused a blind spot on a junction. Surely the authorities should be questioning why this car constantly parks on a junction. It's bad enough when the tractors and heavy goods lorries have to take a wide birth to get round the junction let alone even wider because of bad parking.

Station Road seems to be getting a host of problems recently. The HGV route is getting busier with lorries, there are long level-crossing tailbacks at busy times, bad parking and insensitive/badly considered housing developments. Pedestrian safety at the church junction and primary school, where 4 extra development sites close by will exacerbate conditions, are just not being taken seriously. Sadly, this situation may go beyond just near misses!

Maybe double yellow lines.

Double yellow lines only work if they are enforced like in busy towns and cities with officers to patrol them. It has already been established that road markings are not a solution out here as rarely would they be enforced.

Highway code say you must not park closer than 10 metres from a junction or park on the pavement.

If someone does, report to the police and take a picture with number plate showing

Are you sure you want to start reporting long term village residents to the police who have always parked there? Let's face it, it's not their fault the council has suddenly extended the path outside their house. People have parked there for as long as I can remember.

I would have no problem in reporting this as I am a long term resident to the village. The cars should not be parking there especially when they have a drive provided to park safely in and to provent an accident waiting to happen. The owner of the car with learner plates on may want to take a look at the high way code Rule 242/243 which they will clearly see that it is wrong to be parking like this no matter how long they have been doing it!

These cars have always parked here.. I dont think it matters how long they have parked there - the main point is IT HAS ALWAYS been DANGEROUS. Many vehicles cannot turn from Chapel Road or Bunwell Road safely, as as soon as they enter Station Rd you have to brake due to the cars and risk being hit from behind.

I am a long term resident and if you go back 15 years or so no one would dream of parking on the road.

Perhaps the pub owner would let them park in the car park safely?

Report it to SNDC for parking enforcement. I believe that parking is not a Police issue (Definitely the case for yellow lines, not completely sure about dangerous parking).

No it will only be thought of as dangerous when an accident does happen!

Bad parking close to junctions can be very dangerous.

If I lived there I'd park my cars on the road, I wouldn't care one bit if it made it harder for hgvs to pass, or caused tailbacks.

Ask yourself if companies like RJM Commercials or Newalls give a toss, if their companies are in a ludicrous locations with terrible access to roads that they have to travel through a village to get to anywhere.

If councils refused planning on common sense locations of traffic routes no one would be in this mess.

The owners of these vehicles likely don't give a d@mn what any of us think based on previous requests I hear have been made to them for safer parking.  When the cars aren't on Station Road they are obstructing Queens Street to the extent that larger vehicles such as the refuse lorries and, potentially, emergency vehicles cannot get past. They have a driveway access on Queens Street but it is usually taken up by a caravan.  Unlike the rest of us who needed to make better parking provision for vehicular assets they don't seem inclined to lose a bit of shaded garden to enlarge their parking area so all their vehicles can be parked safely off-road.  There is at least one local'ish caravan storage site in Wymondham on Tuttles Lane which is one potential solution to part of the problem.  Unfortunately some peoples mindsets are resistant to co-operative and thoughtful village community living as we see time and time again here on this forum.

Ouch. Glad you aren't my neighbour

All this is correct though!

To be honest I personally would not be happy leaving my vehicle parked there. It is likely to cause an accident one day and also I am surprised these cars have not been hit or marked already.

It would make sense to park in the driveway of space or queens street but yesterday queens street was packed with 3-4 cars at the top...

Not sure how this can be resolved as it is down to the residents to make the choice.. and put methods in place to hopefully avoid an accident.

This all comes down to the fact that Station Road is not suitable to continue to be used as an HGV route.  It may have been suitable 20 years ago when it was allocated, but things have moved on and this needs to be reassessed. There are a lot more houses being built on this route and a lot more traffic, there just isn't the road system infrastructure to cope.

An element of professional forward planning and assessment, which is actually applied are desperately needed.  Just to keep building houses, increasing the traffic flow and creating congestion, causing these types of problems, is just not acceptable anymore.

Everybody, lets face it are selfish! No one gives a damn about anybody else! And no I am NOT an old busy body, but a middle aged person.whether you are new to the area or not there are certain rules in life that normal decent people adhere to.

parking, yes there are so many metres that you  can park  from a junction. Common sense really.

I laugh when the choir lot park their cars then you get cars near houses park and the poor lorries struggle to get through!

I laugh when the traffic lights were there and still people park , not giving a damn about anyone else.

I laugh when the choir lot park up chapel road so we all can't see up the road.

The pub customers park where ever they like , not a thought for pedestrians . They love the pavement!

tractor drivers love speeding through the village, parents/carers love parking on top of the rail line.

will I be laughing when a person/child is killed! I think not.

we all need to be less selfish and consider others, unfortunately the real culprits dont read this site!

Its a sad world and one we probably can't change now!

If you contact parking enforcement at south norfolk council, they will 'patrol' an area and give tickets to people who park illegally. That will include both junctions mentioned in this post, but probably also others near by, so make sure you are also perfect. A few tickets on the villages public enemy number one will soon encourage them to find another spot, then we can get back to complaining about :

1. the developers

2. the land owners

3. the hgv route

4. Wtc

5. The council

6. broadband

7. eachother

8. strangers

9. brexit

10. Donald Trump

11. People complaning

12. Not having anything to complain about

I haven't seen any complaints about No. 8 to No. 12.

The council will only patrol during working hours.

I don't claim to be perfect actually! But I am sensible when I'm in my car.l don't care what you think,MY POINT I would hate to have a death in the village.I have lived here all my life the village has changed over the years to vast amounts of traffic.

people need to think of others.

besthorpe in Attleborough loads of bumps in the road,I've heard people complain about them. Why were they put there? And yes it was because a poor 12 year old boy was killed walking home from school!

so yes my concern is valid more valid than trump ,developers, and anything else you have listed which you think we want to moan about.

I will moan and keep on moaning as to me life is important and I DONT want to say one day told you so.no

For the record this is my second time of posting on here as I generally read but don't post.

spooner row politics are boring!
