Adam Osbourne , one of our Ward councillors has resigned with immediate effect
It has to be said that he has hardly been active in the ward but is a very busy man with a challenging home life on account of a disabled son who is now moving to Norwich
I have put steps into place to call for a by election which must be held within 60 days of the announcement which was the 13th Sept
I have a very strong town and ward focussed candidate in mind to replace him in Suzanne Nuri, (soon to become Nixon) who was one of the organisers of the Vintage day and who is a very active member of the Town team and Football club and election material, once the election is confirmed and likely to be contested. This will be distributed in due course. she has been working in this role for a number of years and is also a staunch supporter of the Wymondham Disabled group called WAG
She lives on the ward in Silfield and is quite active poltically but very Town centred and opposed to undue and unwarranted influences by the District in how we are governed. It seems sometimes that what Central office at Tory office want is Policy for all levels of Government and we have recently seen how slavish adherence, rides roughshod over local concerns and opinions , come what May ( how appropriate). This has to be wrong but time and time again we see this and not just at South Norfolk , but at Breckland and County as well.
With apologies for the English in the above post ( done in a hurry) I can confirm that today South Norfolk approved the request to hold an election to avoid co option. If the election is contested ( more than one candidate) then the date for this will be announced sometime next week
our local councillors do not look after our interests (except for Julian Hall who works hard). they never reply to correspondence and act like they are just there for their own importance. if they don't want to engage with the community, then they need to resign and let someone in who can do the job.

STATEMENT OF PERSONS NOMINATED AND NOTICE OF POLL
South Norfolk Election of a WymondhamTownCouncillor The following is a statement of the persons nominated for election as a Town Councillor for Cromwells ward
Name of Candidate Home Address Description (ifany)Name of Proposer Reason why no longer nominated
LEMAN James 48 Silfield Road, Wymondham, Norfolk, Labour Party
Hamill Philip
LEMON Martyn Henry Brian Queensland, Station Road, Spooner Row, Wymondham, Norfolk,
I remain a ward councillor and will not be replaced as part of this election.
It is hoped that my colleague Suzanne Nuri will fill the vacancy left by the rather ineffectual past Tory councillor and add more balance to the right wing dominated Town Council who , alongside the single Labour councillor voted to oppose the will of the people of the three subparishes ( 97% in favour and 60% in favour in the WTC poll , held at very short notice) to split away from the control of the Tory dominated Town council, and in consequence deal with local issues in a sensible and pragmatic , non political way.
My views on this split away are very clear as in Suzanne's and I would like to hear the voices of the other candidates on this issue
I am in support of the split from Wymondham Council as it is getting a bit much in that it is dominated by one party and politically tribal in its attitude. At grassroots, it is about people, not politics. I would like to hear what are the candidates views are on the new boundary lines and a split from Wymondham. This is important. Wymondham is getting too big, too political and in recent times has not treated residents from Suton and Spooner Row fairly and honestly. So come on candidates, let's hear what your stand is on the proposed new parish changes. And please don't make any promises you have no intention of keeping, we've had enough of that.
I think I am right in saying that this by-election will only last for 2 years until the next elections in 2019 (or is it 2020?).
I am clear that the new parish or better named community council of Spooner row, Wattlefield and Suton should be along the existing DT1 boundary and I have asked Suzanne for a comment on her position on this , which I will post as soon as I have it. In other words all of Suton, or rather that bit which is in DT1 should remain with the other parishes but let's hear it from those who live there please!!
You are quite correct, the election is until May 2019 when both District and Parish elections will happen , and if we get our own council when that will start as well , if the Boundary commission approve
Our new ward will almost certainly be South Wymondham and include the existing Cromwells ward AND Harts Farm and we will have 2 district councillors. Whatever happens with the proposed new Parish, SR W and Sut will remain within the new DISTRICT council boundary line, so having a strong or better still two strong district councillors is vital in my view to stop us being trampled on , as now.
So the choice is between a new community parish for Spooner Row, Suton or Wattlefield OR to become part of a new large sub-parish ward of urban Wymondham, which will include Harts Farm and we will be called South Wymondham. Don't like the sound of that much. With the new electoral boundary changes in 2019, we will lose the historic name of Cromwells Ward anyway which will be a notable break with the tradition at Wymondham. This is a very good time and opportunity for the local three-village community to prepare to become independent in 2019. Which of the proposed parish councillors in this by-election will support this? A majority of residents want to split from Wymondham.
as promised Suzanne's view on splitting away. Attached below is her unexpurgated e mail
As a candidate in the upcoming election in Cromwells Ward, I am supportive of the residents in Spooner Row, Wattlefield and Suton in wanting to split from Wymondham Town Council.
While I personally believe remaining united is a strong option, I have seen for myself at a recent Town Council meeting just how the Tory dominated council fobbed off valid concerns from residents in these areas.
I can perfectly understand why residents want to breakaway and form their own parish council. It appears that while residents pay their council tax, they reap none of the benefits of being part of Wymondham and I recognise the need for local people in this area to actively seek their own council who would be more sympathetic to how issues are dealt with.
It is clear the current Tory-dominated Wymondham Town Council is unable to accurately act in the interests of Spooner Row, Wattlefield and Suton residents.
Cromwell's Ward is due to disappear in the 2019 changes brought about by the Boundary Commission.
If the proposal to split Spooner Row, Suton and Wattlefield into a new community council is not successful, then we in the village will fall into the new ward of "Wymondham South". The 2019 changes make everything all about Wymondham, so 4 new wards; Wymondham North, Wymondham South, Wymondham Central and Wymondham East. Cromwell's is no more at this point.
Yet another reason to push for our own new council IMHO.
District Council wards will be South, North and Central with 2 district councillors each ward
Town council wards will be as above plus the east , Harts Farm having their own Town councillor , the other numbers get confusing but overall there will in total 15 councillors as now.
I have told the Boundary commission that p*** up in a brewery comes to mind but no joy

Is another Tory Councillor what we want? What are his views on the breakaway Community council? What does he want to happen about the lack of infrastructure? What does he think of our District councillor who says one thing in his manifesto then ignores it once elected or is the role model he intends to adopt ? ( Housing and planning permissions before you ask ) What is he going to do about the poor communcation we have from Wymondham Town Council? Is keeping the Council Tax low , and bringing more austerity when everything is already falling over, really sensible?
Sadly , what his leaflet says is nothing much at all and being a nice chap, which I do not deny, and all that, does not cut the mustard
The tory candidate voted against the proposal for a community council. His response is on South Norfolk Councils website. He has been seen canvassing alongside Clr Lee Hornby, the Wymondham Town Councillor that campaigned against the proposal for a community council. And it was Clr Lee Hornby that was at the very heart of the Kings Meadow children's play equipment debacle.
no thats wrong.... It is the Kings Hall Play meadow because it said so in the leaflet from the left and they never get anything wrong ? looking forward to voting for them on the 32nd
Well reading all this tells me one thing, there are far to many councillors
You may have a point.
I read somewhere that under the vast Roman empire there were 10,000 bureaucrats who ran it efficiently - they collected taxes etc. There were 59 million people living under this superpower.
In comparison, Britain has 500,000 (half million) bureaucrats to run this country.
