Several anonymous posters have commented with regard to grants being given to Spooner Row by Wymondham Town Council and that such grants will be lost under the new council.  This is not the case and here is the evidence.  Information was supplied by the Mayor of Wymondham Town Council, its website and South Norfolk District Council.

Wymondham Town Council has not granted monies to a single project in Spooner Row or elsewhere in DT1 in the last 4 years.  All monies given to the Village Hall and Pre-School, as shown below, originated from South Norfolk District Council, either from their Community Action Fund or from the District Ward Member Scheme.

The new community council will continue to have access to grants from both the South Norfolk District Council Community Action Fund (£50,000) and the District Ward Member Scheme (£1,000).

So, to be clear, no element of the precept received by Wymondham Town Council from DT1 (£21,965 pa approx) has made its ways back to Spooner Row, Suton or Wattlefield by way of a grant in the last 4 years.  I could not look back any further as the links stated on the Wymondham Town Council website were broken for the earlier reports.

Thank you, Robert, for this enlightening information.  It shows how Wymondham just takes and takes and what do they give us in return?  Nothing.  No wonder the Wymondham Councillors tried so very hard to stop us from leaving.  Wymondham can start by explaining why the three villages of the DT1 area have been neglected over the years with no financial support provided to groups within this community.   I am so angry.

I knew we were treated unfairly, but I didn't realise it was this bad. We should have left sooner.

Wow. Very interesting. I cannot believe this. It's quite sad in some ways to feel so neglected as a village. I am shocked at how much money has been put into the Music Festival, Football Club & the Christmas Lights. I know Wymondham is now densely populated but honestly...

That breakdown just shows how much we have become Cinderella outlying villages.

It's ok for us to give but nothing comes back to us. Thank goodness for Democracy being alive & kicking at last.

We're the "Cinderella of the outlying villages" is an excellent description of our situation.

WTC shows little interest in us, yet when a majority of residents want to leave and improve things for ourselves, they spring into action, take an interest and do all they can to cling on and stop us doing what we are fully entitled to do - it has been approved.

Interesting breakdown of figures. How does WTC justify treating the three villages so unfairly to the rest of Wymondham?

I have received my new council tax bill for 2018/2019 and it includes a 4.0% increase payable to Wymondham Town Council.  More money for the town from Cinderella villages

Deliberate or not this post only covers a short period of time. For instance it does not mention that WTC gave grants to the Village hall refurbishment project and to the car park project. Furthermore, WTC also maintains the playing field and the play equipment. As for the past four years the town council did not receive any requests for grants from SR. It is a bit silly to try and compare the amounts given to groups in SR with the amounts given to groups/projects in Wymondham. There are a lot more people living in the urban area so it follows that there will be more projects and grants given to groups who apply from these areas. WTC always said yes for grant requests from SR. It is a shame that SR is planning to split away from the rest of Wymondham. They will have no access to grants from the wider WTC funds. However, it is not all about money but about community togetherness . I fear that this will suffer under the proposed break up of the Parish.  I hope that we can all stay together for the good of all the Parish.

This is one of the opportunities or benefits that I see of our own Community Council.  This should be a group of enthusiastic people who build community spirit and channel ideas through to successful improvements across our community.  If we had had a group of people driving forward improvements we could have spent circa £75,000 on our community over the last 5 years.  An enthusiastic council could also have leveraged off of other grant sources like South Norfolk Council, or more national sources like Lottery funding to increase our resources even further.

Without a group of residents actively looking for projects, planing future improvements, pulling together funding and then managing the coherent delivery we are less likely to improve our environment.  The delivery of community projects will also hopefully build a better community spirit and a sense of well being and achievement.

Let’s all try to come together to build a more positive community in the future.

And yet you never bothered to say this on this forum at any point during the at least 18 month campaign to create the new parish, so your anonymous post is a bit late.

I do not wish to split away from the wider Parish of Wymondham. You speak as if you will automatically receive funds from other sources. This is not the case and we would be better staying together as one Parish as we would always have access to WTC funds.

Access to WTC funds? We don't even get our money spent on proper maintenance of the playing field or the promotion of local sports activities.

WTC has always been good to us. They gave us grants when required. Lets stay together.
