Subject: Community Fund

Dear all,

We have funding available for community groups from £1,000-15,000. We would be grateful if you could help us promote the fund, by publishing the story below in your community magazine and raising it at your parish meeting.

Thank you,

Debbie

£50k pot for community projects

Are you a community group looking for funding? South Norfolk Council has Community Action Fund grants available from £1,000-£15,000 to support projects and initiatives that benefit local people.

Last year the Council funded a range of projects including play equipment at Breckland Park in Costessey, an automatic watering system at Wortwell Bowls Club and a trailer for Norfolk Knights Wheelchair Rugby Team.

If you would like to apply for funding, please contact your local district councillor, who will apply to the Community Action Fund for you.

The next Community Action Fund panel will be held on Thursday 31 May.

For more information on the Fund and all the Council’s community grants, please visit the Council’s website www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/residents/communities/community-grants

This sort of funding will be great when the new community parish council is established and applications made to reinstate proper facilities on the playing field.

I am not impressed by the arrangement that the grant application needs to go via the district councillor who may not bother to follow through or may even take the glory of others' hard work.

I personally find my having to post these things , river maintenance , road closures etc etc as a Town Councillor frustrating as we do have a District Councillor who as stated is key to any application. I appreciate that he is busy and has a job as well so time is precious but.....

Just raising this up the message board as another example of a funding stream for community projects.

Having recently been briefed on this it comes as you would expect a raft of rules.

If you are a parish or town council and can raise money from a rise in the precept you will not be awarded a community grant. For large sums Community grants look for match funding wherever possible but to be clear whilst a Vilage Hall committee can ask for and get funding a Council cannot. So no village sign dog bin play equipment owned by the council or anything  that ANY statutory body could provide such as Highways is not permitted

If you have had some funding within the last two years... no money

The project must be a one off and have no ongoing commitment and must benefit a community not an individual

There are two forms of grant. This one a community ( action ) fund with a bigger budget and slightly tighter rules and member grants which are limited to a max of £1000 a year but with the same rules as above.

I am happy to consider applications but no guarantees and what is always preferred is say a specific request for a specific item and of course part funding is allowed.

There was a recent request for a projector replacement in Wymondham at the photographic club and several of the Wymondham Town councillors agreed to put in a sum each which went towards the cost of the projector.

Hope this helps explain further what is on offer
