Sometime during the evening of 15th November the cabinet (green box) that houses all the phone connections for Spooner Row, Morley St Botolph, Suton and parts of Besthorpe was vandalised. The whole box was destroyed by fire and will require completely re building. This has affected everybodies ability to make and receive calls and will affect those who still have broadband over copper. Fibre connected broadband will still work.
If anyone's phone line is down it's because a BT cabinet on the old A11 out of Wymondham opposite Morley Lane caught fire last night. It looks like it will be a big job to replace it so phones could be off for a while. Looks like fibre broadband is ok though.
Thank you very much for posting this, I had no idea what was wrong with the phone - and I don't really use a mobile. What an appalling thing to do as the phone is a lifeline for those people who don't have mobile phones, and there are some, in this rural area too. I do worry about this type of vandalism, if only whoever does this sort of thing could think really hard about the consequences.
It would be nice if the providers told us this as opposed to having to report it and get a load of waffle about it is not our fault and Openreach has been called
It took me all day to get a divert set up to my phone and after the fourth and last call it finally happened.
As I recall I was not very polite having used nearly all my credit on calls to persons whose first language was not English and having gone through the same security checks each time for what seemed like hours. I really hoped they did record the calls for training purposes and to make sure their service gets better. It certainly needs to.
Hello me and my parents have Sky Q Satellite TV along with Sky Broadband Internet. The Sky Broadband Internet stopped working on Thursday night and today is Monday. I just wondered if any one knew when we will have the internet again and when the Internet will start working again? If any one knows any updates or information then please tell me. Our Sky Q Satellite TV is working perfectly. But we have no Sky Broadband Internet. Also why is the internet not working now? Thank you
See Jon's post from last week further down the message board:

There were 4 Openreach vans on the scene yesterday but as they are having to rebuild the box it will take some time.
Its not good news on the phones front. The advice on the BT website is now not being updated, so just spent 15 mins online with BT to be told that fault likely to last into next week.
Robert , I am done with the notes and as the fault is in our network from exchange to the hub which is a big network and this is taking longer than usual. "We’ll need to dig into the ground to have a closer look at the cable. Before we can do that, we need permission from the land owner or local authority.
We also have to make sure we meet all the health and safety requirements when working on or near the public highway. Sometimes this means restricting the number of lanes which in turn affects traffic. So we have to get permission for this too.
We’re doing everything we can to get your service up and running as quick as possible.
Our engineers team is working on this issue and the next update would be on 26-11-2018.
As the fault was not theirs they are doing all they can but do not forget that loss of service is a cue for a reduction in bill prices . Not sure how all the providers see this or regard this as possible but if you do not ask !!
My mobile , a relic from the past is now costing me a fortune to use and the battery keeps crashing. I just hope the barstewards who did this get caught. Someone must know who they are and for old persons relying on landlines this is a worrying time and as such dangerous for them
Definitely ask your supplier for a refund. Lucky to have a mobile phone signal as parts of the village are very poor and this morning I have been without a landline phone and mobile signal....great!
This may not be BT's fault but why hasn't a backup system been put in place in case of vandalism? This area is promoted and flaunted as part of the 'A11 Technology Corridor' on the Norwich to Cambridge route. This statement is a joke. It is not technologically advanced to be without basic communications for possibly 2 weeks. This situation would not be tolerated in Norwich or Cambridge so why should we tolerate it? All we get its lots of new housing without any adequate support to the communications part of the infrastructure. Pathetic.
Don’t forget the HGV route, you left that out this time

Talking to the Openreach engineers working at the box by the pub this morning telephone lines will start to be restored today.
I am already being told that certain properties in Chapel Road have lines this morning.
The engineers are now testing the system line by line.
It appears that the vandalism may be linked to robberies at 2 local farms close by to the damaged cabinet, as it could have been an attempt to stop alarm systems from being activated but the Police will not yet confirm.
It's awful how people have sat down and planned this disgusting act.. and if it is linked to the burglaries- which is most probably is it shows what lengths people go to and how calculated they can be..
I really feel sorry for the people that have been targeted and burguled.. it's violating.
I hope they catch these awful creatures.. who are obviously trying to make a few quid before Christmas.
Its becoming the norm round here for theft, strange people weighing up you're house and funny goings on in the night , oh and hare coursing .. with stolen dogs! Which were someone's loved pet..
I have CCTV.. as do a lot of people but if these crooks want something they just take it!
The only inconvenience I have been caused is that I have not been able to work from home.. so my days away from my house and family have been longer all this week.. thanks to a group of low life idiots.
Does any one in Spooner Row have the Broadband Internet and Phone working? Me and my parents still not have SKY Broadband Internet and Phone. All we have that is still working is our SKY Q Satellte TV. Is any one in Spooner Row still with out the Broadband Internet and Phone? We have been with out the Broadband Internet and Phone since Thursday November 15th and now it is Saturday November 24th. So please tell me and update me on any thing.
We also have a different number. We’ve reported it to BT and hopefully it will be corrected in a few days. It’s nice to know we’re not the only ones with this problem!
I am in Suton and have a totally different phone number now. Only found out when phoning a mobile and getting a different caller display. No internet for a week and a half.
My telephone number today has now found a home in Suton, at Jason Bradey's! A bit of a coincidence as I was taking to him about the very same issue when we unexpectedly met at Park Farm Hethersett yesterday.
Of the 900 homes that lost service last week I have been told that 250 re-connections have now been made but that Openreach are being hampered by the sheer number of faults and the multiple little green mini cabinets within our system. It seems that the main cabinet at Morley Pits was first forced open and then "some form of accelerant" was used to set the cabinet alight.
My advice to those residents still with a problem is to try their line from a mobile and then if it rings, explain the situation to the person that picks up the call - the likelihood is that they will be in our area and already aware of the situation. Then exchange names and property addresses so that this information can be passed to Openreach. Either update your online fault report with your supplier or catch up with one of the engineers at a cabinet.
Just to let every one know that me and my parents now have our SKY Broadband Internet and Phone. So yes our SKY Broadband Internet and Phone is working perfectly now. So Thursday November 15th 2018 our SKY Broadband Internet and Phone stopped working and today Tuesday November 27th 2018 our SKY Broadband Internet and Phone is all working again perfectly.
Just a quick question for you all and I really would love it and appreciate it if you all can answer me and tell me.
Does any one have Fibre Broadband Internet here in Spooner Row and if you do have Fibre Broadband Internet is it any good and is it any faster and would you recommend getting Fibre Broadband Internet here in Spooner Row?
Me and my parents only have the normal SKY Broadband Internet and it really is so very very slow and we keep losing connection between our SKY Q Satellite TV Receiver and SKY Q Satellite TV Mini Boxes because they all run on Wi-Fi Broadband Internet and as i said the Sky Broadband Internet really is so very very slow. When my niece Olivia comes to stay with us at weekends and during the week she try to watch YouTube which means we have trouble to try and get on our SKY Broadband Internet. None of us can Watch YouTube because all it does is Stop and Buffers all the time and constantly. Yes we have many Devices Connected to our SKY Broadband Internet such as 2 SKY Q Satellite TV Mini Boxes and the main SKY Q Satellite Receiver and 2 Samsung Tablets and 1 Ipad and 4 Samsung Phones and no we do (NOT) use them all at the same time.
So is it worth me and my parents Upgrading to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet? Would you recommend it? Is it worth paying extra money every month to have SKY Fibre Broadband Internet here in Spooner Row? Does Spooner Row have Fibre Broadband Internet? How much faster would Fibre Broadband Internet be in Spooner Row? Could we watch YouTube and Download things and watch our SKY Q Satellite TV with out Connection problems? It really does take for ever to Download things and yes it really does take for ever to Download a App or Update a App on our Samsung Phones and Samsung Tablets and IPad.
So please please tell me truthfully and honestly. Is it worth me and my parents upgrading and paying a lot more money to have SKY Fibre Broadband Internet or would the SKY Fibre Broadband Internet be the same as the normal SKY Broadband Internet we have now?
I wait all your answers and replies.
Thank you
Kind Regards

There's been fibre broadband in Spooner Row since the summer. We have only got a basic Talktalk package, but upgraded it to fibre for an extra £3.50 a month, and it has been a huge improvement on the previous speeds. We were averaging a download speed of around 1 and now it's 34 or so. Sorry - I can't help with the specific question of Sky, but I'm sure you could find some way to get an improvement on your current services.
We're still waiting for our landline to be reconnected, but at least we have still got working internet.
Thank you so so much Frances for your kind and helpful reply. I really do appreciate it. Me and my mother called SKY tonight and had a chat with SKY and SKY tested our Line and said our current speed was 1.8Mbps because we only have the normal SKY Broadband Internet. We then also asked SKY if we could upgrade to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet and SKY then checked our Line and told us yes we can upgrade to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet. SKY told us we would average speeds between 39 to 40 Mbps if we upgraded to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet which we thought was fantastic and good compared to the 1.8Mbps speed we currently get now with our normal SKY Broadband Internet. So yes we have now upgraded to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet at a lot more expensive and dearer price. We are also having to pay a fee because BT Openreach will have to come to our home to do some work out side so we can get SKY Fibre Broadband Internet. SKY told us we will have and be connected to SKY Fibre Broadband Internet in 7 to 14 days time after BT Openreach have completed the work BT Openreach have needed to do. So I will keep you all updated and let you know what is happening over the next week or two with our new SKY Fibre Broadband Internet.
Just another quick question. How fast and quick will it be for example to download a movie or download a song and more importantly what is the maximum rate I will be able to watch YouTube? Will i be able to watch YouTube in 720 or 1080? The maximum rate I can watch YouTube in is 360 which is poor not good quality and it still buffers and stop at that rate. Also how long will it take to download a 30 minute programme and a 1 hour programme? Any answers and information really would be very very much appreciated. Thank you
With Sky Fibre Broadband with the speeds you describe you will be able to download songs in seconds and movies on Sky within minutes. You will have no problem viewing You Tube videos at full 1080p and you will finally be able to say goodbye to all the buffering! I also have no problem watching Netflix in 4K quality.
Sky Q mini boxes actually work as WiFi boosters which will also help with connectivity. I stayed with BT when we got fibre in July and occasionally get speeds of up to 70mps here in the village. Sky I understand are updating their own network on the Spooner Row exchange in Q1 next year so your speeds should get faster then.
Just had a call from an Openreach contact; this mornings fault report showed that they are now down to 65 reported faults.
If your telephone service is still down and the fault has already been reported, please check that your fault report is still active, as reported faults are still coming through at this late stage.
Internet has been fine since the start of this mess except yesterday for about 3 hours but back on now. Home phone came back on after about a week, calls out only BUT with the wrong number coming in ( 17070 wiil confirm this) BUT now phone gone altogether again as of yesterday 5th.
BT engineers now effectively threatening people with call out charges saying it must be your phone that is at fault and we charge you but the reality is that the systrem is still screwed up but such calls are VERY unhelpful and levels of compensation currently being offered derisory even if you get someone to talk talk to, which in my case has been almost bl**dy impossible
Do not ever agree to or ask for a call out Engineer , they will charge. Just tell them phone still broken and they need to sort and keep a record of this
The internet connection in School Lane is sporadic after damaged caused by a tractor trying to dig a highway grip on Monday. A temporary repair has been made. This damage initially took out both the telephone lines and the internet connection to several properties.
We had a very helpful BT engineer come out to us yesterday. We now. (at last) have our proper phone number back. However the internet download speed is nowhere near what we were promised/ guaranteed on our price plan with BT. Apparently there several other lines that are not working at full capacity. This has been reported And being looked into.
Very surprised that at no time in the last few weeks, when the whole village lost their phone lines, did BT contact their customers to inform them of this problem or keep us all updated on progress.
We have finally got our phone and broadband both working - but only after having to contact Talktalk once more this week to report the landline fault again and to insist that it had not yet been completed. They claimed that it had been reported as being completed which explains why we had not been reconnected before this week. If you are still waiting for reconnection it is definitely worth contacting your provider to check that the fault is still listed as current - we were reconnected within two days of my phone call.
As a contrast I contacted BT today on behalf of a neighbour who has no mobile phone and so could not report the landline fault. BT online were extremely helpful, in spite of me not being the account holder, and have checked the line and it should be reconnected within two days.
I wish I could say Talktalk had been helpful. They have not and just follow their damn scripts telling us to use our phone to call for techinical help so we can fix the phone. The implication being it is our fault and despite the fact that we have no phone !!!! Doh !! and a very dodgy mobile signal
The latest e mail said just call and we can fix your computer on line . The fact that there is nothing wrong my computer SO FAR and ALL my complaints relate to the phone beggars belief as to how stupid these people are
3 1/2 weeks now without a proper phone working correctly on the right number
Just had a call from a BT engineer. Fault down to water being found in ducting adjacent to the damaged green cabinet at Morley Two Pits. The outage is effecting the majority of lines into Spooner Row.
A specialist team are due to attend this afternoon and attempt to resolve.
I’m on Queens St and my phone is off too , really not good as I am disabled and my phone was not working until late Friday from previous issue and it’s essential for me to have it. Any clues when it’ll be up and running again.?
had a working landline for approx 24 hours having finally got it back after 27 day s with a couple of weeks of diversion in place to my mobile which sort of worked about half the time and someones else's phone number
Nothing now at all AGAIN
I suppose I am luckier than some but what a way to run a business
TT have generously offered me £16 compensation claiming loss of service only for 16 days

We drove past the damaged box at Morley at lunchtime and there were several Openreach vans there, so hopefully, it won't be too long.
This is important: the engineers will only check lines that have been reported as faulty, so if you know anyone who may be vulnerable, please tell them to report their phone line as their phone may be overlooked with a wrong number etc.
