I thought I would post a few pictures, as an update on some of the small projects your council has been working on.
Firstly the bench by The Boars has been refurbished and new bins for both litter and dog waste have been located on the same corner. There is a second waste bin which will be sited on the playing field very soon. This will replace the concrete one, which has no liner and is therefore difficult to empty.
As well as the new dog waste bin by The Boars, a second new bin has been sited at the of South end of Queen Street, just as you turn fight on to Top Common. The old rusty dog waste bin by the entrance to the playing field has been replaced with a new one and there is another new bin on order to be located on Hill Road. These four bins should cover most dog walking routes in Spooner Row, so no excuses for allowing your pets to foul the pavements or roads. We also have a new bin to be located at the North end of Suton Street, near Sawyers Lane, to compliment the bin already in situ at the South end of Suton Street, again to cover the most likely dog walking routes in Suton.
We are progressing a plan to purchase our own moveable SAM2 speed sign, which we will be able to place in various locations within the 30 mph speed limits. The sign also records speeds and time of day, so we can collect evidence of speeding to influence highways to progress other speed reduction measures.
To aid communications, we are progressing a plan for a Village noticeboard in Suton, plus a virtual telephone number for the Council, which will allow anyone to phone a local telephone number to contact us. We are also very close to launching a new website, which will hopefully improve communications; it will not just be for the council, we will be actively encouraging everyone to get involved in publishing items of interest to grow or inform our community. The Council will also publish all of our documents on the website, so that if you can’t make council meetings you can see what we are up to. Most of our time over the last 6 months has been setting the council up, from bank accounts and insurance, to grass cutting contracts, finding a Clerk and writing and endorsing the policies which we will operate by. As we are now fully up and running, we are turning our attention to the future and actively looking for bigger projects to progress with you.
All comments gratefully received as we can only deliver what you want if you engage with us.
I would just like to add that these village facilities, namely the dog bin and waste bin, were paid for by the Community Council and installed by myself, with the assistance of fellow councillor Neil Griffin and resident Jamie Potter.
The bench was kindly refurbished by resident Edward Peters.
Thank you to all involved and if any other resident would like to get involved in a similar community activity, then please contact me.
