Trucks speeding through the village

Is it not time for our Community Council to take a lead on this? As we can't actually prevent the trucks using the village roads, surely the only way of slowing them down is going to be some form of traffic calming?

Next time you are out and about take a look at the Intwood Road junction at Keswick to see how traffic has been calmed down with a new management scheme - 4 signs and 4 bumps.

Problem solved for Keswick so why can’t we get something like this in Spooner Row?

It’s alright sticking speed bumps in, have you heard the noise a lorry makes going over them ? even now most of those lorries sound like earthquakes on wheels.

Councils don’t care about these or they wouldn’t grant planning to start with, you have to take matters into your own hands, start parking cars all down station road, see how long that takes before they get fed up and take another route.

I don't think parking on Station Road is "in the way". There are no yellow lines on the road and parking responsibly on the highway is lawful. That doesn't mean to say that Station Road can cope with both parked cars and lorries at the same time. Some might have noticed that when cars are parked opposite the new footpath between The Ridings and the Village Hall, HGV's hold up the traffic as they cannot pass when the highway becomes too narrow. What's more, something should be done about lorries driving on the footpath to pass each other. Not only is that dangerous, but it also damages the paths causing tripping hazards to pedestrians.

I think it is about time that the HGV route was re-visited and re-assessed as it is possible it is no longer a viable option due to a number of changes over the years.

Do you think any business that knows the levels of traffic it will generate, the early hours they will run, that then sets up in a rural location cares about residents of a village they know they will have to constantly operate through ? Councils do nothing, so whats left ? residents taking matters into their own hands, they don't care about you, so why care about them ? simply logic.

Power to the people, do everything that is legally possible to look after the people around you that share the same views.

Was wondering what happened to the 'SAMS' we were supposed to get?

Viv, The Council was expecting to be informed in March whether or not we would be allocated funds for our SAM2 sign. The council have received a letter this week saying the award letters for SAM2 have been delayed by up to 4 weeks. We will post on here once we hear anymore detail.

Nice to see companies following the new rules, I guess shifting dirt is a priority in these times, then again with these companies nothing surprises me.

We live on Bunwell Toad before the 30 mile speed limit kicks in by the new builds and we are particularly concerned at the speed the cars, trucks and lorries come down the road, particularly as many people are now walking and cycling along the road. Even in normal circumstances people walk along the road. i agree that something should be done to keep our village safe and The 30km speed limit should be extended further Along Bunwell Road.
