Household Hazardous Waste Days, September and October 2020
I am writing to let you know that in September and October the County Council will again be running a series of free, weekend-long events at seven of the larger recycling centres where householders can dispose of their leftover household chemicals and paint.
Wood preservatives, insect and weed killers, paint, thinners, varnishes and special cleaning products are among the wide range of household chemicals that will be accepted. These are products that can be too dangerous to be tipped down drains or sent for disposal with ordinary household waste withoutcausing environmental damage. In addition we will be operating collections of reusable paint at all of the sites which will be passed onto a third party.
The Household Hazardous Waste Days will be taking place at the following recycling centres:

The events have been being promoted with posters and leaflets at all Recycling Centres and through District Councils. There will be some targeted advertising through social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We will of course be promoting the events on our own website and issuing a press release. Please find attached a copy of the leaflets should you wish to distribute or display this within your town or parish.
Last year’s events were very popular with residents and the volume of household hazardous waste items that were brought to the sites was high. This year, we are again preparing for similar levels of demand and have good contingency plans in place. We have taken the step to employ a traffic management company to manage the traffic. For this year only, we providing an additional day at each of the Recycling Centres in an effort to reduce any congestion and handle the expected increased demand .
If you have any further questions about the events, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kindest regards
Janice
