Apologies if this duplicates any other threads - article in the EDP today (24/01/2022) about proposal to close the Wymondham recycling centre and move it to a new site in Spooner Row (where there is currently a substantial soil heap that will cost £350k to clear?):
There are details available of this in the NCC Cabinet Agenda dated 31st Jan 2022, pages 735 to 737. There is a small map on page 736 that shows the proposed site located between Holbrook Business Park and Little Dial Farm, London Road. Here's the link to the Agenda:
‘The stage that the County Council is at now, which is site selection, is a very early part of the process, and to help get things right the next steps will involve consultations with customers and the public, developing a final design, and then asking for permission to build and operate the new sites – with both those two process also involving public consultations. To do all that properly does take time and following that the new recycling centres would have to be built, so allowing for all that means the new recycling centres could be open approximately two years from now.’
The details only include access from the A11. What undertaking will be made to evaluate the impact of increased traffic through the village, Station Road and Bunwell Road?
Not a surprise that we become not just the dumping ground for Wymondham but also Attleborough as well due to its proximity, which is in a different council altogether.
When I mentioned about the Wymondham site closing and relocating last year no one knew anything about it., even though I was only 250 meters out.
Surely this can't be new news to our council if I heard about it in a pub last year?
And I would like to clarify that it is a hell of a lot closer to Suton than it is to Spooner Row.
Thank you Daz. I take your point entirely about being closer to Suton than Spooner row but I fear that is just beligerence on behalf of county. The site has been chosen apparently to serve Attleborough as well as surrounds and as I sure you are aware County can give themselves planning permission which is why I involved our county councillor.
With regard to your point on the community council knowing I would be foolish NOT to acknowlege that there have been rumours running for at least two years (+) now , but nothing official until last monday and they will say, of course it is only a draft.
I have however asked that the matter be brought before the community council for the next meeting for discussion in March although to date we have heard absolutely nothing at DISTRICT, as this is a matter which falls outside their remit. It also technically, not a matter which we , as a community council can have any meaningful direct impact upon , other than as a individual would. It is a quirk that District collects the rubbish but the waste authority is always the County.
This sounds like a raft of excuses but it is not. It is sadly the operational messy framework in which we operate under current governance rules.
Dear all I have been rightly criticised for not being clear in my previous posts
The 'rumours 'were as a consquence of an un-minuted discussion made by the then county councillor Joe mooney, at Wymondham Town Council, at WTC so several years ago talking about looking for a site between Attleborough and Wymondham
The Community council have never been party to these 'rumours' and I apologise if I gave the impression that we were fully up to speed on this . We have never been consulted at any point and no even up to now
The community council agreed that there is insufficient information at the moment to comment and agreed to update on the website when there is anything
Thank you Mr Halls for updating us even if insufficient information has been released at the moment. Please continue as we need to be informed of when progress has been made.
Daz thank you for the update. I"ve heard from someone close to the site that it is unlikely to be big enough for a recycling centre.
How about the Authorities keeping the public informed on 'proposed' developments that will have a local impact? To what extent will this 'proposed' recycling centre increase the traffic flow through the villages?
