You have heard of the Angel of the North. Have you noticed the Post in the East on the Community Playing Field? This is the beginning of what will be our very own Beacon. We will be celebrating along with others up and down the length and breadth of the United Kingdom. 

On June 2nd at 9.45 pm we will be lighting the Beacon to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

Those of us of the Community Council are pleased to invite you all to these free fun events.  The day starts with a free Tea party in the Village Hall. From 2 – 4 pm this is a fun-filled afternoon for the young and young at heart. Open to children up to 12 years of age and Senior Citizens. Royalty themed so dress up if you like or just come as you are!

The evening is a chance to dance the night away to the Lee Vasey Band. Stuff your faces with Hog Roast, Pizzas, or Vegan Food. Please note this is a free event open to all, but there is a small charge for food on the night. Pre-book for the best prices.

Did you know that Queen Victoria’s Jubilee was celebrated by lighting of beacons?       

In 1897, beacons were lit to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.

 In 1977, 2002 and 2012, beacons commemorated the Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees of The Queen, and in 2016 Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

 

You can toast Her Majesty with our Licenced Bar on the evening. That is in addition to the Hog Roast, Pizza, and Vegan Option of Food.

Lee Vasey Band is our entertainment for the night.

There is even a free Raffle!

Parents……. your children do not have to attend the local school. An open invitation goes out to all of our communities schoolchildren up to twelve years of age to attend the FREE tea  party at the Village Hall on June 2nd. 2 till 4 pm. Dress up in your favourite Royal theme or just come as you are. A memento of the Jubilee will be given to every child.  Register via eventbrite on our website. Spoonerrow.cc

We have catered for 200 people, split evenly between Hog Roast and Pizzas, for the Party on the Playing Field. There has been a high take up in advance so we have limited Hog Roast tickets remaining (6 covers) and we have 40 pizzas tickets remaining. If you don’t want to miss out on the night, please order now on www.Eventbrite.co.uk.  Just search for Spooner Row and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Party on Spooner Row Playing Field should be visible. From 6.30pm the Community Council will be hosting its Platinum Jubilee party on the playing field. The Jubilee Beacon will have its inaugural lighting at 9.45pm.

I really enjoyed a brilliant evening and feel proud to be part of our great village. Congratulations to all those who organised it and hoping we could have a few more events like that (Spoonfest??) more chances to light the fantastic beacon!♥️
