Dear All

The report today outlined a change to move Wymondham, and the Spooner row community council area to within the South Norfolk parliamentary constituency in 2023

When this happens is linked to a legal framework but best guess is October 2023 , 4 months after the final report by the commission to the privvy council so possibly in time before the next General election

If we have one before then the old boundaries remain until the next

They very rarely, if ever change their minds

The matter has a very SHORT deadline for comments to be received at the boundary commission by the 5th December 2022.

These comments can be made personally and of course our MP will change in consequence to Richard Bacon when it almost certainly will happen

Why does the Government need to do these very expensive reviews? There is too much information to wade through on their web site.

Does this tie in with a future mayoral devolution for Norfolk with yet another tier of local government? This was mentioned in the budget last week.

This is a very good question . For many years the idea of having a unitary council, that is one where all district and county council functions happen under one roof has been bandied around for ages. So in fact less levels of bureacracy and confusion as happens now.

Parish councils will remain

Unfortunately the prospect of 7 district councils and more is the point the loss of several 7 sets of district councillors, one Labour, one Lib dem and 5 tory and a set of county councillors going as well to be replaced by ONE council and ONE set of councillors has not been at at all welcomed and no one could agree as to whether we have one unitary , or two or three !!

Politically there is less enthusiasm from one particular quarter and to be frank there are several candidates who think they should be Mayor. The leader of the county council does not get on with the leader of south Norfolk, so not exactly joined up thinking happening here.

For Cornwall who have just gone unitary having 1 mayor ( leader) makes sense but for us , it currently does not, so I would suggest us going  unitary (and Suffolk)  has to happen before the Mayor does, but what do I know ? Certainly no sensible wider discussion that I am aware of is in-train BUT to take the comment of more layers of bureaucracy  on board it will in fact, if it happens reduce them.

Sorry to go on a bit here but you get the drift. Will it happen? Currently my best guess is nothing BUT if Central  govt legislate for this , it will, but there will be lots of unhappy bunnies and will this result in a shift of power? That is the real issue in play.
