If you'd like to do something practical to help local wildlife, then maybe we could interest you in joining Toadwatch. The group is made up of local volunteers who patrol a number of sites around Wymondham where toads, frogs and newts are known to cross roads to return to their ancestral ponds to spawn. We carry them safely across the roads to limit the number killed by traffic. The season is usually from mid-February, through into March, but the dates are heavily dependent on the weather. You work in pairs, patrolling at dusk, and can choose which days and how often you do a shift.
You can find out more information at toadwatch.org or contact Georgette at wymondham@toadwatch.org. There's a planning meeting, providing training for new volunteers, at the White Hart in Wymondham on Monday 29th January at 7.30. Please feel free to come along if you're interested in joining, or finding out more about what we do.
