Playing Field maintenance work, hedge trimming and ditch clearance from Tuesday 3rd September

Information provided by the SRCC Clerk:

Playing Field in Spooner Row

On Tuesday Sept 3rd, it’s expected that work will commence on the playing field. The Community Council has contracted hedge trimming and ditch clearance to address its responsibility to maintain the area.

This ditch is currently not allowing passage of water. The Community Council was made aware of the situation and this is the first opportunity to address this and re-instate the flow.

The hedges and margin will be flailed, this will initially look harsh but will grow back in time - this has not been done for at least 3 years.

The rear ditch will be excavated, there will be removal of self set bushes to allow safe usage of equipment. The spoil will be kept on site. It is unknown when this was last done.

There are 400+ native hedging plants to infill the hedge to the road and re-establish the wild life margins that this work will remove courtesy of the Woodland Trust.

This is necessary and emotive work, the Community Council has waited until birds have fledged and the contractors are mindful of disturbing habitats. Users of the field may be concerned about the extent of the work - every care is being taken.

This process will last several days and members of the public are asked to be respectful of the workers and not engage with them. In the interests of safety please avoid their area of work areas.

There will be multiple vehicles on site and their access is via the carpark, we are aware the carpark is well used and would like to ask for consideration not to block the gate.

Whilst this may be interesting to watch from a distance please do take care of small children and dogs without good recall. Both the field and car park belong to the Community Council.

In November the 400+ native trees will arrive to be planted in the margins of the field. Anyone who would like to be involved with this process is very welcome to contact the Clerk.

I'm glad the maintenance was held off until the birds have fledged and the hedging will be infilled with native plants. This open space is a valuable wildlife area.

I agree.
We only need one person running the council.
All the rest can go.

If we trimmed out the deadwood there would be no one left on the council, we could start again then.

We need several councillors to run a parish properly rather than one person, and a good clerk who can cope with all the nonsense, which thankfully we still have.

Who would want only one person to run a council? It sounds a bit authoritarian to me.

There are some really good people in the villages ready to go onto the community council but will have to wait 3 more years!! Unfortunately lots of damage has been done and continues!!

No need to wait, they can join now. Just turn up at the next council meeting, or talk to the clerk or anyone on the council.

There is one very good reason why no one will join the community council or why councillors only last a few meetings. Until RF is no longer on the community council we will have to put up with it. This person is controlling our villages to no benefit to its residents!

Is it just one person causing a problem or is it more than this? Is it bullying? Then surely something can be done?

They are all as bad as one another!

Nothing can be done. Yes, it's just one person (have a look at the resignation letters of previous councillors - see for yourself - they are on here).

There is no 'vote of no confidence' possible, nor is there any chance of removal due to abuse of position or bullying etc
The vast majority of councillors who were voted onto the council at the last election have left and another one just quit as well.

The only way things could change would be either:
1) The councillor in question resigns
2) The councillor in question commits a criminal offence (and is therefore removed because of this)
3) They get voted off in the next series of elections in a few years time

What was the cost of the ditch clearing etc. Why are village people not asked how money is spent?

Costs of council expenditure can be found on the council's website. Look at the agendas, minutes, and annual finance reports.

I remember there was a questionnaire that was circulated about the 3 villages some years ago asking village people what they wanted. They have our ideas and the money, but agreement on the council is the issue.

The village hall received £15K from the council for refurbishment and that benefits the village hugely.
