Does anybody else in the village get frustrated with the Amount of Scooters riding around with noisy exhausts riding on the playing field. They used to congregate at the village hall but now they just go everywhere.Trying hard to irritate everybody.

Ok, the public (i.e. residents) can make a request via our parish and town council for a SAM (speed awareness) intervention in the village. The council make the request by emailing sam@norfolk.pnn.police.uk. SAM is a mobile, operator controlled, Vehicle Activated Sign system which checks vehicle speed against the limit and displays it on a flashing sign to the driver. Have a look at http://makesamsmile.org.uk/index.php?page=what-is-sam. As speed and vehicle flow data is provided to the parish/council this is then information which can be used to support any further measures that may be necessary address the speeding issues in the village. I don't know our local parish councillor but he's the person who can get this ball rolling.

We can do something else as well and apply as a community to join the Community Speed Watch scheme operated by Norfolk Police. Simply, speed monitoring is done by trained volunteers from the community and the follow-up is done by Norfolk Police. Initially letters are sent out to the registered keepers of offending vehicles and persistent offenders are targeted for Police enforcement. This scheme also offers supporting initiatives such as Speed Indicator Devices. Details of the scheme are on the Police website http://www.norfolk.police.uk/articleListing.cfm?bctrail=0,529&catID=906 and they also have a booklet at http://www.norfolk.police.uk/artPDF/CommunitySpeedwatchBooklet.pdf. If there is sufficient interest in the village then I think this may be a good way to go?
jross
the kids on mopeds are only trying to have a bit of fun i mean theres not much else to do in the village for them

I have no problem with anyone having fun but it's not fun when it's at the expense of other peoples right to enjoy their homes and gardens in peace. There wasn't much to do where I spent my teenage years but we didn't make a nuisance of ourselves on mopeds or shouting up and down the roads until all hours.

Resident posted 2/5/09 9:27 AM Yesterday there was a black motorcycle came through the village over 100mph its ridiculous. Why do people seem to think they are above the lawI think that was me I was only doing 95 not 100mph im not stupid
Unbelievable
Well Matt, we'll just have to hope i) that you're not stupid enough to hit something, injure or kill someone, an animal or yourself and ii) that the police catch up with you soon.
Matt
Hmm thats a bit strange, Why would i want to hit anything..... Its going to sting a bit.Why does everybody assume motorcyclists are suicidal maniacs. I May have on the odd occasion left the village around the speed limit. Thank you for your concern however.
Mr Lover Lover
I Can understand all of your complaints...however...if any was bothered something would happen...how many crashes has there been along that road recently??Thats what i thought now get over it

The young (and sometimes the not so young!) think they are invincible. Driving at speed in any vehicle is scary, gets the adrenelin going and brings a certain amount of excitement. Trouble is, sometimes the unexpected isn't anticipated and even in controlled situations the unexpected can have fatal consequences. Often it is through the stupidity of someone else that a biker will take a tumble, but at high speed, even the most competent rider could die or receive horrific injuries. It isn't clever or attractive to tempt fate in this way, so everyone should take care. Speed restrictions are enforced for a reason. Have you seen how quickly a young child can take flight and run into the road? When this happens, someone will instinctively swerve, even for an animal, sometimes with horrific consequences. Please do not end up, or cause someone else to end up as another fatality statistic.
I knew..
I knew someone who died a few years ago in a motorbike accident doing 70mph in a 30mph zone. The details were gruesome and the person's mother new got over it.
Unbelievable
As 'Concerned' has said it is the unexpected that can and does happen - eg the pheasant flying across the road, the child, cat or dog that runs out - to cause serious and fatal accidents to both bikers and car drivers. Just think how many experienced/professional bike racers, whose reactions are honed to perfection, have still lost their lives on the road. Please Matt, don't join them and please, don't take someone, their child or pet or a wild animal with you. Scraping the remains of a human body of the road is a gruesome task. Enjoy a track day at Snetterton or elsewhere where there is some degree of control and an immediate emergency response but don't become the mangled body plastered on the Bunwell Road or flung into a ditch, tree or field where you die alone.

Dear Mr I knew...was that i Spooner Row that was my question?
I knew..
No, it wasn't in Spooner Row or anywhere nearby.
Matt
And im perfectly aware that everybody on here has Never broken the speed limit as it sounds like they no all the Risks. Iv hit a Pheasant And rabbit also got hit on the head by a Pigeon The trick is not to swerve otherwise your asking for trouble.Ill admit to having a few close encounters on my bike but 1 or 2 out of 10 are due to my own stupidity. Its you people in your humple little world inside your car thats when you switch your car and your brain off.If you where that concerned about safety would you please try to contact the dozy women who have about as much roadsense as a pencil parking on junctions and across my driveway. Many thanks MattMatt

Now now Matt. Seems you have just shown how immature you are. Petulance is something we all grow out of eventually. I have no idea who the lady is who parks across your driveway, so I am unable to ask her not to do so. Yes I do agree with you that there are many people who are on the road who can be totally inconsiderate. I would suggest that you speak to this lady yourself and politely ask her not to park across your drive. I am afraid there is nothing I can do to help you with that problem.
Button
You shouldn't whinge about people's parking when you show no consideration with your speeding.

I have just noticed in Matt's post that he said said 'women' were parking across his drive, and I had read it as 'woman'. I do apologise. It is bad enough to have one woman annoying you, having women parking across your drive must be even more so. I think this would indicate that either Matt is very popular, or he has a very wide drive.
Excuse me "Button" but i dont see anywhere where iv said that i have broken the speedlimit ? The part about doing 95 through the village was a bit obviously a large hint of sarcasm. And my driveway isnt that big and its not just 1 person who blocks it. Anyway back on topic How are we going to stop the wee Scallywags treating our village like a Racetrack. I Have tried 1 approach before, Worked well but cost a fair bit I stood in the headge near the school on quite a dark night and used my cameras flash as people went past to quickly, it was quite amusing watching them dive on there brakes , Went through a pack of batteries quite quickly.
After recent critisism towards my riding i have been paying some attention to station road and iv come to the conclusion the worst offenders are Mercedes and Land rover owners from eye point of view
you are the least of our probs matey, come on villagers, we need to worry about the lorries etc before we start on the youngsters that dont actually have that much to do here...think about it...mandy.x
