As some of you may already know, there is a programme on ITV 8pm this evening. Jonathan Maitland is investigating these 870,000 empty homes. Wymondham are going to build 9000 homes which may or may not be lived in as told by Tim Horspole. If every council has to do this, then it won't be long before there are over 1,000,000 empty homes. DISGRACEFUL or what? Don't forget to watch. The BBC1 programme last year on the same subject was very enlightening. I think we should berate the powers that be on this subject disbelief

I agree, talk about ploughing forward with the blinkers on.  Do any of these so called "professionals" actually question a policy instead of just following it  blindly?  Isn't it a complete waste of money to build a "set" quota of houses (eg 9,000 for Wymondham) whether they will be empty or not when the country is heading for one of the worst recessions for years..

I Dont quite understand why the houses will be empty seems a bit daft to me, If the houses were filled i think it would be great for wymondham seeing as the rise in infrastructure will benefit struggling shops. All they need to do is increase other areas such as Medical facilities Parking and such like.

But then again being young and naieve i may not see the whole picture.

That's the point Matt, they will build the houses regardless of whether they stand empty or not, and you are right it is stupid.  If they stand empty then it will have all sorts of knock on affects like poor infrastructure and we already have hospital problems with a lack of resources.

I apologise to all of you who were expecting to see Empty Homes Syndrome on the ITV Tonight programme last night.  I suppose they felt that Tough Love was more topical. Jeremy Paxman had already earlier in the week tried to crucify Julie Myers for writing a book about her son, so they obviously think it would make good viewing.  More fool her for writing a book and not using a pen-name about a sensitive issue. Novertheless, empty homes, unnecessary building prorammes and the ruin of our countryside is also a very topical subject.  I have written to the Tonight programme and shown my disappointment at their decision not to show the original listed programme and asked when it will be shown.  I have also added my own point of view.  Will let you know what transpires.disbelief

I have just had a reply from ITV's Tonight programme and they have informed me that the programme on Empty Homes will now be aired on 17th April.
