Wymondham Town Council have been secretly planning to sell King’s Head Meadow in the town centre for redevelopment into an Asda supermarket. The Windmill Public House (which is a listed building) and the Roman Catholic Church site would be included in development plans and be detrimental to the character of Wymondham. The Town Council has purposefully made this decision without consultation with the residents of Wymondham. Why is the Council reluctant to engage in discussion with the public? How unfortunate that just as Wymondham Town Council is planning to sell off the King's Head Meadow, a campaign backed by Prince William is seeking to set aside 'Fields in Trust' to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Even more embarrassing that the Principal Sponsor of the QEII Fields Campaign is Asda, the very supermarket seeking to build on King's Head Meadow. Wouldn't a site on the outskirts of town be more suitable? Please have your say before it's too late. An action group called Wymondham Asks Why has been set up. www.keepthemeadowgreen.org.uk
