local resident has asked me to ensure that this goes up on the e-Board. I think that's a good idea because the applicant has booked Central Hall for a public meeting about it in a week's time so the more publicity there is, the more people can get informed in time for the meeting.
There is a planning application in the pipeline for a large development just off London Rd (the bit of “old A11” just Southwest of Wymondham).
Please note: (the small print stuff) I have posted this by request of a resident. Because, as a Councillor, I may be asked to officiate in a WTC Planning Committee meeting where this item is discussed, I take this opportunity now to declare publicly that
[1] I do not have any personal or prejudicial interest in this application. [2] I do not have any predetermining opinion either against or in favour of this application at this time and will therefore represent any views communicated to me by residents (as I understand my duty to be).
It has to be good news that the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) is calling on the government to amend its planning reforms over concerns that greenfield land is under increased threat from new development (EDP 15 July). They are launching a new countryside charter to lobby the government for changes to the National Planning Policy Framework. The CPRE also calls for communities to have a much stronger say on the future of their area. "Towns and villages are being ground down by relentless developers who can afford to keep challenging cash-strapped councils on controversial developments". Let's hope this new campaign has some effect.
CPRE won't save anywhere around here from south norfolks planning mismanagement. This is a deliberately engineered goldrush and the council are handing out the shovels when they should be policing the stampede. The CPRE are just ridiculed by recent events. Money and influence win out when the local development strategy has been so recklessly delayed and mishandled. As for this application seeking the publics opinion, they are surely smirking at the thought of us all being so stupid as to fall for this sham again and again and again. Can anyone give me an example of anywhere where local opposition has been even remotely been given any weight by our planning authorities.
Just watch tomorrows brushing aside of all of the objections to the housing over there in spooner row.
Everyone should boycot this public meeting. It is only done to manipulate the application more in favour of success, not to remotely care about existing residents. A totally empty hall and a protest outside would give a stronger message to the applicant and their obliging friends in south norfolks planning department.
How does this development fit into SNC's proposed Local Development Framework? (it doesn't) As for SNC's 5-year housing supply need (which most of the recent planning applications have been considered under), what exact number of new houses is required for this part of the parish under this scheme? Is there a limit on the number of new houses allowed under the 5 year supply for here? (or is it as many as they can cram in?) We haven't been told what the number of new houses is, or how this number is decided (or any information come to that), yet we live here! At this rate Spooner Row, Suton, Wattlefield (with its solar farm) and the rest of Wymondham are going to be turned into a big urban sprawl!
You can sign the CPRE new charter which demands better protection for the countryside, a fair say for local communities in planning for the places where they live and work, and more housing, in the right places. The countryside will be lost if we do nothing. www.saveourcountryside.org.uk.
This Government link says, "Local councils can decide how to spend the New Homes Bonus. However, we expect local councils to consult communities about how they will spend the money, especially communities where housing stock has increased."(edited) South Norfolk Council should be following the Government's guidelines and start consulting with us as to how we want the New Home Bonus money to be spent.
Worth noting that the details on South Norfolk Council's planning website for this major development are now under two different references. It initially went on their website as reference 2013/1171 (1st July) as aScreening Opinion and also as reference 2013/1399 (21st July) as a Scoping Opinion. Is this designed to confuse, I ask?
Thanks for posting this really interesting documents. Lots of little boxes crammed into a small space next to a new cemetry - delightful! No mention of any new shops - more traffic on London Road - a slow creep toward Spooner Row....
This vast development at Suton is going to be decided soon. Only Wymondham Town Council and the Developer want this. Not even South Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council think this development is appropriate. Why didn't WTC include this area in its Wymondham Area Action Plan? Something sounds odd here. More urban sprawl and additional strain to an infrastructure that can barely cope, e.g. insufficient parking spaces in Wymondham Town and lack of high school places.
The Developer has provided a planning leaflet (document) for the Planning Meeting on SNC's Planning website:
