Does anyone know why the pathway refurbishment did not happen in Aug between the level crossing and the chapel

Hi whoever

Apparently NCC engineers have cancelled it until next year in the Summer Holidays. I did try and post the email string I have sent,  but the message board does not like this and I have complained again stating  that the reasons why it was probably cancelled this Year , will be just as valid next year and thought this decision was non sensical . Given recent events for next year there will probably bev no staff and no money to do anything. I intend to harangue our newly elected County Councillor.

Cllr Foulger our area County Councillor has receved a reply from the Highway engineers who cancelled the refurbishment on account of some unforseen utility works. This in turn meant that the planned work could not be completed in time for the Summer holidays (2013) so it has now been postponed until next summer , but we have been promised some interim repairs shortly.

I remain concerned that that given the parlance state of Local Govt finances this may also get compromised , but all we can do is wait and see.

I would add that if any injuries, damage or incidents arise, which can be directly attributed to the state of the path , which is part of the highway then NCC might well have to pay some compensation given the fact that they are aware, via this message board. Let us hope that it does not come to this.

The town Council have just been notified that these works will entail a road closure for 4 weeks with a long diversion in place from the crossing up to the Boars junction.

I have asked the Town Council to pass on concerns that this will mean HGVs using the Suton road ( Nightmare) and also might result in Lorries trying to go down Top Common and over the weight restricted bridge which is of course illegal.

If anyone shares this concern and any others please let Highways at Norfolk CC know Carrow House County Hall

The dates for the closure is given as monday 4th August for 4 weeks but preparatory work will start the week before so 5 weeks in total

Can someone please let the Church Choir know as I have no contact for them and please do not shoot the messenger

Closing the road for 4 weeks!?! What the hell are they doing, laying mosaics?

its no wonder highways haven't any money with these jokers charging by the  day.

(Thank you Julian for the update, and keeping us in the loop)

Update

A letter was sent via e mail to NCC with concerns and Town Council immediately passed the letter on. The reply from the supervising Engineer advised that warning signs advising HGV not to use Top common will be posted very clearly and she consulted the Engineers who think Suton lane is not going to be an issue as it never is normally, but they did agree to monitor ( whatever that means)

So over to  you please, to keep an eye on transgressing HGV and record numbers. I strongly suggest not tackling them but do take times and names on the Lorry, and if you get issues with blocked roads whilst trying to get down or up Suton lane please let highways know again with as much detail as possible.

You may be interested to know that the reason why lorries can drive down station road is because they would have to go via Old Buckenham otherwise and past some schools. One of which is set back from the road and is a secondary. It is apparently okay to send them past a primary school in Spooner row instead, but perhaps that is a fight for another day !

It's not just HGV's that we need to be concerned about.  Whenever Station Road is closed (eg. level crossing works) the whole of Queens Street becomes a 'rat run' in both directions for all vehicles who know they can loop round the closure via Top Common/Queens Street rather than follow the diversion.  With a closure expected to last 4 weeks this presents a risk to residents vehicles and pedestrians alike.
