Wymondham crime summary 11th April 2014 South Norfolk Home Watch Message: You will see below information on crimes including an arson and a cat being shot and injured in Wymondham. Please contact police on 101 if you have any information to pass to police on these or any other crimes.

There have been a number of thefts, including from outbuildings, right across South Norfolk this week. Clearly those responsible are traveling between villages looking for targets.

The property taken from outbuildings includes garden equipment, scrap metal, cycles and building equipment. It’s a reminder to check that your property is security marked and outbuildings left as secure as they can be.

Also, in the warmer weather, please don’t be tempted to leave ground floor windows and doors open and/or unlocked if you’re elsewhere in the home or outside – I’m afraid it can be too much of a temptation for opportunist thieves. Please contact the Safer Neighbourhood Team if you need any further security advice and don’t forget to report suspicious behaviour or crimes in action to police on 999.

Inspector Carol Congreve Please note the information contained within the crime summary is information suitable for public distribution and does not include certain categories which may have personal privacy or data protection implications.

With reference the obviously insecure car park at cemetery lane for the station,  I had a bit of a whinge and have subsequently learned that South Norfolk who run and raise charges for parking here, are aware of a problem and will be installing CCTV in the near future.

Much as I would like to claim credit for this, I believe it was in train already but  let us hope these  latest incidents mean they get onto it a bit quicker than planned

On a more local note couple of weeks ago on a Saturday whilst walking down queens street to the corner with top common there was a transit flatbed parked on the corner. As I approached with my dogs the occupants of the van jumped in and sped off down top common towards the railway line. When I got closer I realised that they had opened the water hydrant and was helping themselves. Driver; late 40s early 50s round face big build/overweight dark greasy hair. Passenger mid 20s dark hair shaved at sides. (...edited...).  I know it's only water but we pay our share don't we?

Think they were after the hydrant cover for scrap not the water

Just as well you walked along when you did. The hydrant cover is there for a reason, not for someone else to help themselves to - this is not a very community-minded thing to do. Hope the police catch up with them.

The men were after the water as there was a massive water container on the back of the van and water on the road. Suppose the cover was going to be an added bonus for their trip out!

For those who are wondering where this has all gone, I honestly don't know. As soon as I get some reports I put them on, but we haven't had any recently and I have asked

Good afternoon Cllr. Halls

I have made enquiries of the beat officer for Wymondham and have been told that the administrative dept that collated these details was re-organised and a third of the staff were made redundant/ redeployed and the lady who covered Wymondham has now gone to Gt Yarmouth and therefore the lists have been discontinued.

Many thanks

Trevor Gurney
Town Clerk

So when your precept goes up again and we are told services are unaffected and being maintained....................

That's convenient! Are there that many crimes in our local area that they can't put together a short list for public information? Perhaps they are not making the cutbacks in the right area.
