shopped at the new Morrisons in Wymondham today - very good and the new access road from the A11 was much better. I'm glad they didn't go ahead with the other plans for an ASDA that would have been such a monstrosity at the other location on the meadow.
Whilst I can see your point, don't you think the kind of people who will go to morrisons will be the people who were already going to Waitrose rather than the people who go into town to the smaller shops?
I dont really sign up to the argument that these places kill town centres, the facts are supermarkets offer the convenience, selection and quality of products at a price people want to pay. If the same selection, convenience and quality were available in the town for the same or similar price then the supermarket wouldn't have a market and therefore would not exist.
places like Mervs and the butchers will adapt and survive because they offer a service that people want, but the coop / savers / one stop etc. will probably suffer because it will struggle to compete on range and price, but does that really matter? It's just a faceless corporate entity, if they close , the building will re-let to another corporate body (probably a bloody tesco metro etc.) it's not like the owner will loose his house.
I rarely go into town to buy foodstuffs, only really to go to the baker (try his new quiche, they are brilliant).
I prefer to go to Attleborough. You can park in Sainsburys carpark and shop in the local shops or free, or park anywhere in Attleborough for free - no 'half hour only' parking with parking wardens more increasinly on patrol like Wymondham. Shoppers take note, the Wymondham parking wardens are not dressed like traffic wardens so you may not realise they are there until you have a ticket for parking just a few minutes over the half hour - which is easily done.
