There is an exhibition on Tuesday 9th June from 3pm to 8pm at Wymondham Central Hall when the developers, Taylor Wimpey, will discuss the plans.   Outline planning permission has already been granted but this area is not too far away from Spooner Row.     It was once a medieval hunting-park.    The book I have, referring to the site, says "beyond is the industrial hamlet of Spooner Row" !

i doubt if the developers give a care about local history. This development you refer to is at Park Farm Silfield, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Park Farm owned by Alston Ltd the same landowner who is building all the controversial houses at Bunwell Rd and Chapel Rd in Spooner Row?

I'm afraid I don't know which Alston it is - there are a lot of them and most are farmers !    I think that the exhibition will be to look at an additional 128 houses here  (Taylor Wimpey)  -  there is existing outline planning permission for 500 on this site.

Referring to the "industrial village of Spooner Row" made we think that perhaps it was at one time  as I believe the Village Hall was once a Maltings, placed conveniently next to the railway.   There may be some local history here, for good old Spooner Row !

This was quite interesting. Things I got from this were as follows but no gurantee i did not miss something

  •  Silfield road before the A11 crossover will be diverted slightly to swing the road into the new site. You will need to turn right to carry on down the road
  • There was mention of new traffic lights in station road/london road ( no details )
  • two entrances onto site at far end of Silfield road
  • hope to start ground works early next year
  • Net work rail having promised to renew the bridge are not now going to do so
  • Underpass through the embankment on the railway station side of the bridge will proceed, as a consequence of bridge decision.  ( I asked about lighting and cameras  !) Currently this underpass/subway will happen after or near the 300 th house being built but this may change to earlier
  • new site will have a new football pitch and a junior cricket pitch as well as community building ( pos changing room)
  • No new access onto A11 planned
  • Houses near the A11 will have to have acoustic double glazing and vents on account of road noise

How can they justify this development without Network Rail upgrading the bridge?

Thanks Julian for this summary. It appears to be a good scheme. It is good to see that they are to provide sports pitches. I understand that it is The National Highways that wont allow acess onto the A11 and not South Norfolk Council.
