Censorship of this site

If you are asking posters to use their names for views of a political nature surely this should be extended to cover all postings. You have always opposed this move on the grounds that some people do not like using their names for fear of a backlash etc. I think that this was a good policy and it should remain. I fear that this new policy amounts to censorship and is nothing more than an attempt to crush free speech and stop comments that does not agree with the views of some posters.

This forum is apolitical and concerns itself with local interests and local concerns, which can sometimes be of a political nature.  It has no interest in party politics.

If named residents (who make postings of local concern) are criticised because they happen to be affiliated to a political party, then it is only fair that the person making the political/personal criticism has to identify themselves.

This forum promotes free speech to all local users who have the option to use their own name, a user or other name, or remain anonymous.  See http://www.spoonerrow.f2s.com/message_board.htm

I don't think that posters should be forced to use their 'real name', but it is simple enough to choose a user name such as 'GrumpyTory' or 'LoonyLefty', 'BobTheBuilder'. This way all posts from that person could be linked, the admins could have a e-mail address ( visible only to them ) which if needs be could be used in certain circumstances. The only restriction would be that a particular username could only exist once. Users would log in with a password. This would also mean there is a significant reduction in the need for pre-moderaton because Spam issues are less likely when a login and CAPTCHA*are used together, it could speed up the conversation. It would end the ridiculous conversations where people refer back to Anon and the other Anon and the first Anon.

For all we know, one person could be arguing with themselves to make an issue seem more important than it actually is

Anon - oh no we're not

Anon - oh yes we are

Anon - Boo

This topic is probably the second most discussed conversation behind the other thing

* CAPTCHA is the thing at the bottom of the screen where you have to enter the letters from the box, it means Completely Automated Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. i.e. make sure you are a people not a computer doing spam. That's one for the Quiz n Chips isn't it!

(Thanks for your advice. This forum has been running in this fashion, with increasing popularity, for many years. The issue you have raised has been aired in previous postings.  Webstation)
