One of our stalwarts is leaving the village and whilst we have been running below the minimum number for a while now this has called into question the continuance of the scheme. We are a result calling for volunteers. Training will be given but we need at least six active members for this to work.
We average about once in two weeks for an hour with slightly more in the summer but are fair weather operators only for reasons of safety
Whilst we have good effect when on the roadside there are those who still think that speed limits only apply outside their front door , and when we are not there just ignore the limit. Very few of these people live in the village but as we are a rat run to the A11, and Wymondham, we do get more than our fair share of Rolands. That said the real value is when we get a Police precence who can and do nick people effectively on the spot. If the Speedwatch stops so does this extra targetted monitoring.
I am sure some reading this will breathe a sigh of relief but please remember a child being hit by a car at 40 will be seriously injured and may easily die. Do you have children or grandchildren?
