How ridiculous! Schoolrun vehicles parking right by the railway barriers facing wrong way!!! Tanker lorry and cars could not pull in on right side of road!! Very dangerous!!
This road is not up to being an HGV route as the few community facilities we have are along that route. I think there should be changes made at councils where those that make bad decisions such as this can be held accountable.
Why are parents packing there cars across our driveways during school drop off time and also next to level crossing . Is there now a new parking problem at the school. Wonder what will happen when the new house's are up and running !!!!!
I am given to understand that when the upgrade to the A11 the residents of the nearby districts campaigned to have a proper access built. We got his and the residents of New and Old Buckenham rubbed their hands with glee , and as they have far more voting clout the road through Spooner row was designated as an HGV route to get to the back of Attleborough and they were very happy. the argument was there are two school where theycan see the lorries. The fact they drive past a primary school now was glossed over.
Rubbish decision and wrong but very unlikely to change as there is no political will to change this at County level that I can see. County Councillor Colin Foulger for our patch. District and parish have little or no direct influence here
The developer for the proposed houses in School Lane has offered some limited money to extend the car park INSTEAD of providing a "pedestrian refuge" on School Lane for children walking to school from the proposed new houses. We also have a school-run parking problem in School Lane and if these new houses are built then there will be more young children walking to school on the road having to dodge reversing and manoeuvring traffic. Parents sometimes block residents driveways, reverse into residents driveways, drop their children off in residents driveways/gardens. I have nothing against extending the recreation ground car park to improve the bad parking problems we have, but NOT at the expense of forcing more children to walk on the road in School Lane for the new builds. It is against SNC safety policy as well.
It will mean more traffic generated from the new houses. When the new houses are finished on Bunwell Road, the chances are, children will be driven to school by car, as who would want to walk to school along an ever busy HGV route?
Sorry if I wasn't clear in my last reply but the driveway is owned by Granary House, not the village hall. The users of the village hall have right of way for functions etc. to access their car park at the rear of the hall.
Using a private driveway for school parking is not an option.
Well the problem will continue to get worse if no solution is found and more houses are built etc.
The school parking problem happens at most schools.
Wicklewood were fortunate to have a new car park / drop off system built because they acquired more land for a playing field area.
These days a lot of parents need to drop their children off and dash straight to work which adds to the vehicle numbers.Going back to the village hall- years ago it was known to be used as it was accessible, as was the field behind.. but yes if Granary House is a private drive then that's understandable.
I am getting a bit fed up with people (including those at the council) saying that most other schools have a drop off problem. This is a cop-out. Most other schools do not have their entrance gates sandwiched on a junction between a narrow no-through road where there is no footpath and cars manoeuver dangerously in order to park, and a country lane thoughtlessly, improvised into an HGV route (Station Road). Unbelievably, more properties are in the process of being built at that junction, with even more having obtained planning permission down the no-through road of School Lane. What inappropriate planning this is.
There is some talk of a possible car park extension on the recreation ground. Anyone who actually lives here would know that this would not solve the problem. An extended carpark would have an adverse effect in the vicinity of the car park entrance on Station Road, causing additional traffic usage just where the traffic calming chicanes are situated and the road tapers into a single track. This would create more haphazard driving and traffic queues. The choice would either be to remove the chicanes (increasing traffic speed close to the school) or to leave them in place with increased congestion by the school junction - not forgetting that the queue from the level crossing can go beyond the chicanes.
NO, the Spooner Row school parking problem is not like other schools' parking problems, it's worse. Ours is a result of poor planning over the years, which continues to this day, putting lives at risk.
