I bumped into him in Attleborough today. We spoke about his pledge to oppose urban sprawl. He said he is visiting the Boars this evening to discuss these issues with residents. I am unlikely to be able to attend but urge you to do so.

It would have been helpful if Mr Freeman had given the residents some notice about this so we could make sure we were there. Just turning up like that isn't really giving us the opportunity to discuss the issues that he was there to discuss. I am sure a lot of us would have a lot to say about his policies, shame we didn't get the chance

Yes, I agree. I put the message up as soon as I found out but unfortunately it took a while to go live and was consequently too late. it is definitely worth emailing him though.

If you hadn't bumped into him yesterday, then no one would be none the wiser that he had even visited Spooner Row. If he wants to discuss issues at The Boars then he needs to advertise and inform residents. He conforms to his party politics and all parties including his, are now pledging to build hundreds of thousands new houses every year so I don't know why he is pledging to oppose urban sprawl, it is just not true. We are not stupid.

The way things are going, Spooner Row and the surrounding area, will soon be townified like many rural villages all over the country. The political elite is out-of-touch with the average person.  I have heard that if you write to Geoge Freeman about planning applications, he replies that he does not get involved.

So Steven, did you attend the evening with our MP?

If yes, what was discussed?

No, as I said in my first post I was unfortbate not able to attend at such short notice. Don't shoot the messenger- I was just trying to inform people of what he told me.

Steven, it often comes across on here that the 'messenger is being shot', but this is absolutely not the case and I am sure many of us thank you for letting us know about the visit to our village from our current MP, without which, very few of us would have known that he had even been here. I am annoyed that he didn't advertise it. I would have visited the pub that evening and asked him a few questions on his Government's policies.  Didn't he help write this latest manifesto which is all over the national news and people are in an uproar about?

Did anyone get to speak with George Freeman MP on the evening when he visited The Boars? How does he intend to put his pledge into action and oppose the urban sprawl in Spooner Row when his party's policy is to build lots more houses all over the country? What is the intention for the village as this could affect the way I vote if I vote at all? I don't think Spooner Row is suited to as many as ten thousand new houses, as has been identified under the NPA as a possible future for Spooner Row, especially with the state of the HGV route along Station Road and Bunwell Road. Totally unsuitable. I would be interested in what our MP had to say at the local pub.

The problem is, all parties are pledging to build hundreds of thousands of houses, and it is popular withotger people. You cannot argue that there is demand. For example, most of the estates in wymondham, attleborough, spoonerrow are totally sold out well before the houses are finished. Perhaps it is you who is out of touch?

People want affordable housing, there is a shortage. before you say spoonerrow is unsuitable you need to realise that is not a reason to not build, it is just an obstacle which will be addressed by making it suitable. Sorry.

I can't believe what you have said. 'Unsuitable' is a reason not to build otherwise we could all just put up any development anywhere without permission. I was only asking what George Freeman said at the pub as apparently, he pledged to oppose urban sprawl, look at the first comment on here. How can he pledge something he cannot deliver and goes against his party's manifesto?

Attleborough and Wymondham are towns that have the infrastructure that goes some why to support new developments. Spooner Row does not. Urban sprawl without adequate infrastructure will cause all sorts of social and living problems. Most of the many new houses with planning permission in Spooner Row are not affordable housing as you claim there is a need for, but expensive housing instead. For a healthy, sustainable community to exist it should never be about to build more and more houses at any cost and just for the sake of it because they sell well. Who benefits from this? Developers, landowners and councils perhaps? I thought it was the job of elected members of parliament to represent what their electorate wants. Can this be delivered here?

All political parties are pledging to build lots of houses

No political parties are pledging to build no houses

developers build houses and sell them to people who want them, they make profit, pay tax and employ LOTS of people.

People who live in nice houses in little villages do not want new houses built because it will spoil their way of life, they however do not own the land around their nice houses.

People who do not currently live in nice villages would like to live in nice villages.

Lots of people accept that new houses are needed due to a current lack of supply. However they would prefer that they are built in somebody else's nice village

People who would prefer that their life stays just the way it is and do not want new houses to be built sieze on terminology they think they understand and try to use it to force the planners to build elsewhere, but in reality their poorly thought through arguments are just brushed aside because in general they are either easily addressed or just irrelevant

no politican in England will pledge to stop building houses.

finally, a large percentage of the houses which are planned to be built in the village ARE 'affordable' at the chapel road end.

For clarification purposes

Affordable houses for the shires is anything about 250K and for London 450K, according to Govt definitions as 'starter' homes. Please look this up !!

Sustainable means a balance of all 3 factors:-  Environmental , Societal and Economic and a basic understanding that there are benefits in ALL these areas

Without a proper infrastructure in place, the only benefit is economic and only then to the developers and the rest just all falls over.

Whilst there is a chicken and egg argument here and I accept that there is a chronic need for housing, we need to get it all properly in balance FIRST and make property genuinely affordable.

It is this I would like to see in place and not a Local Plan which ignores local views and has demonstrably failed for the past 10 years and continues to do so because of a lack of a 5 year land supply. A gift to any developer who can afford smart planning consultants and a barrier to those who cannot.

The campaign for rural England CPRE are very much against any further land allocation for new sites until the exsiting allocations are taken up, and I have to say I agree with them but right now there is nothing to stop any district Council from granting planning permission almost anywhere anyone asks for it and to be brutally frank they need the money, so are going to do so and the bigger the better .

That is fundamentally wrong

To the poster before Julian Halls, you are very opinionated on what you think people in villages think. Believe it or not, but not everyone wants to live in a village, many would prefer to live in towns and cities for the close proximity to amenities, some people, on the other hand, prefer villages. People are allowed to make decisions on their preferences and the last time I looked we still had freedom to make these decisions.

A large percentage of the new houses in the village will not be affordable, there are some affordable ones for Chapel Road, all other new ones will be expensive housing for maximum profit.

It is worrying that you think that residents planning concerns are poorly thought through or irrelevant, does that include the dangerous, lack of footway provision for School Lane which even SNC's Local Plan said was needed to accompany new houses?

Apparently, our MP said to a resident that he is pledging to oppose urban sprawl, was this discussed further at The Boars? This is surprising as his party is not supporting this. He is the Chair of the Government's Policy Board, so he of all people should know what his party's manifesto is for house building.
