Just out of interest, how many others in the village use domestic heating oil and is there any interest in forming a buying club?
Rix this morning on 700 litres were 38.93p per litre, whilst Goff came in at 35.95p.
If you are a little low at the moment it might be worth topping up the tank and a few of us getting together might shave off a few more pennies per litre.
We are subscribed to BoilerJuice who do all the hard work finding the cheapest local prices. They often have special discounts and buying weekends or notify you of deals when there are other deliveries in your area. Takes the pain out of phoning round and then having to go back to whoever said they would meet your best price - this still makes me feel like we're being had over!
I had a chat with a chap that runs the heating oil club in Bunwell but they simply buy from the same supplier each time and do not market check prices at the time of ordering.
Historically, heating oil prices seem to be at their lowest in July and suppliers want to deliver 20,000 ltr to a community before offering a deal.
I will simply add a heads up post on the message board next July.
We use heating oil, and there are plenty more in the village who do. I have bought through the Bunwell group a couple of times, but it always seemed to me that their prices weren't as low as I expected from a group. Now you have said that they buy from the same supplier every time that makes more sense. We don't need a top-up at the moment, but we will need one nearer the end of the year. Would it be worth asking again once everyone has got their heating back on?
