This evening was my first solo attempt to get home using my chair along the footpath on Bunwell road.

The new dropped kerb at the Station road junction was fine, but the hedge beside the footpath opposite the pub is so overgrown with brambles etc that I had to turn  back & use the road.

The next problem was cars parked on the footpath (I guess the owners were in the pub); back on the road again!!

I got back on the footpath eventually & all was well until I had to cross the road to continue on the footpath on the other side, opposite the building site. the path is strewn with large pebbles & bits of building material, it  made progress very bumpy & uncomfortable.

The last piece of path, opposite the Hill road junction is totally impassable, it has almost disappeared because the hedge has been allowed to grow over it. the house owner MUST be asked to cut back the hedge so that the path can be used. I'm sure the Highways office could have a word, people push prams & pushchairs along there.

It was quite an ordeal but I'm pleased I did it, why should I (& others) be stopped from getting out & about because of other's lack of consideration.

Has anyone else encountered these problems & struggled to safely use the footpaths, if so, any thoughts on how to reclaim the paths?

What a shame you have to encounter so many problems.

The main problem I have when walking with my son is the path which is opposite hill road, the hedge is so overgrown that I have to walk along the road with my son. I consider this quite dangerous especially with large lorries going through the village let alone all the cars.

IT would be great if the hedge could be cut back..

Contact Highways and tell them that the highway is being obstructed and ask them to contact the owners who are causing this.  Also, contact your local District Councillor.  A wheelchair user has a right to get out and about safely.

Does anyone know if it down to the Building Contractors/Site Manager to ensure that rubble from the site that is left on the footpath or road is cleared up. Any accident regarding debris deliberately left on the highway could result in an insurance claim, that is why farmers pay out so much for road sweeping machinery.
