I have received a letter today addressed to the Occupier from South Norfolk Council regarding "making the most of your superfast broadband".  They think we live in a superfast broadband area and are providing a public consultation to help us make the most of the opportunities it offers.  The on-line survey for the public to complete can be found under  Superfast Wymondham   https://www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/consultations

I hope everyone in Spooner Row is enjoying the superfast broadband we have - talk about adding 'insult to injury'!

I too enjoyed reading how Mr D Disney believed I lived in a superfast broadband area. I sent Mr Disney an email to the address supplied on the letter to help him to question his views. Autumn 2018 seems a long way away still.

When it comes in a few months as scheduled you will be able to complete the survey accurately.

This clear disaster to your day has been swiftly resolved, there is no need to thank me. You are now free to totally over react about something else which is clearly a slight clerical error by the council which has no control over your broadband.

I won't hold my breath and I expect the survey will be long finished by the time superfast broadband arrives here if it ever does.

It is not at all a disaster to my day and I do not totally over react as you put it over another "slight" clerical error by the council, there is no cause to thank you.

So now the project for installing the fibre for the superfast broadband has been cancelled.  Glad I didn't hold my breath!

Please, can South Norfolk Council stop wasting valuable resources in sending us all letters promoting something we have not got, nor likely to get in the foreseeable future.

The connection here is so bad I can't even download a critical Windows update file (1.1GB) to make my system secure.

Do you know which update it is trying to download? Also what version of windows do you have, I may have the file you need.

Thank you for the offer, but I got the file from a friend in Norwich, who downloaded it in 2 minutes in Norwich!

I tried downloading it overnight from Spooner Row but the download stopped after just 200Mb so I gave up.

Really in a few months? Great news, can you be more specific? I understand the new housing development on Bunwell Road has fibre already

Don't hold your breath. We have been told many times that superfast broadband will be coming to the village, only for everywhere else nearby to have it, but not us.

First I've heard about the new development having fibre that works. We can't even get a proper mobile phone signal for much of the time.

Just out of interest, how fast do you need? Do you know?

2mb/s? 5mb/s? 10mb/s? 25mb/s? 50mb/s? 500mb/s? 1000mb/s?

What do you consider to be fast enough? How will you know what to order? What do you intend to do with it?

It seems to me that there are plenty of people who just want super fast, but in reality they actually don't need it

You can already get Thinking Wisp today, which is more than adequate for most people.

Unfortunately Thinking Wisp is unreliable with speeds ranging from nothing to 9mbs even from hour to hour. When you are trying to work from home, or the kids are trying to do homework, the unpredictability is frustrating. I don't think we would stand for it if our electricity came and went!

I think most people just want....

a reliable, constant connection

being able to watch a youtube video without buffering

have enough speed to watch a streaming service like Netflix without the picture going fuzzy

download larger files quickly

Not much to ask when most of the rest of the country and even neighbouring villages have it..... just give me 20mbs and I will be happy...

More and more we are living in a two-tiered society with those that have the crucial internet speeds to do the necessary things for a modern life and those that don't. We are those that don't.

I would be delighted to have 2mbps. My 0.5mbps speed is completely useless. What is particularly unfair is having to pay the same for it as somebody who receives superfast broadband. I am sure things have got worse. 2 years ago I was regularly getting c1mbps but now I am lucky to hit 0.5mbps.

I complained to BT on many occasions about the useless Broadband speed in the village. I eventually emailed the BT chairman, a Mr Gavin Patterson on gavin.e.patterson@bt.com. |He replied, which surprised me! Informing me I would be contacted by his chief engineer in due course. I have actually spoken to this engineer who confessed our speed is very slow and apologised. He even reduced my BT package by £25 a month for twelve months! This has not improved my Broadband speed, but given me hope if enough people email this guy, we may get a result sooner than we expect. Fingers crossed!!!

It's not just the poor broadband speed that is the only problem, it's also the power surges.   We keep getting these electrical power failures, which mess up our home network for getting the internet.
