Having lived in the village for over 35 years it's sad that people no longer have the time of day to stop and chat. Most of the elderly generation have gone from the village and they had the spirit a village needs. But having said this it has taken the current weather conditions for the community spirit to raise fond memories of stopping and chatting to neighbours. I would like to thank Robert Foster and the local farmer for clearing a snowdrift and getting access through Chapel Road again even if it's for a short time.
I would echo that and the help given to me twice, in Sawyers lane and on the back road to Spooner row both of which were passable when I went out, but not so when i came back and I got stuck twice . The last one on Suton lane the driver of a white 4 X 4 who literally pulled me out of the drift having turned his truck around towed me out . Clearly not local but exceptionally helpful and refused to take any money for his trouble.
Yes I should not have gone out but I had promised to take a family friend to the mortuary to say goodbye to this wife of 67 years at the Hospital who had had massive stroke earlier in the week and died on the 28th. The Hospital were brilliant with hardly any staff and we were looked after very sympathetically and automatically approved free parking and made the whole process as painless as they could.
