Yesterday I attended a meeting of the Digital Innovation & Efficiency Committee at Norfolk County Council, primarily in order to gain face to face access to those that hold the future of rural broadband in their hands.
One of those spoken to was Karen O'Kane of Better Broadband For Norfolk (BBfN) and it was good to put a face to a voice at last.
Ms O'Kane confirmed that the new fibre cabinet for Spooner Row is now scheduled for June and went further to explain that an additional fibre cabinet will be coming to the village "in recognition of new development". This second cabinet may reach out to a few properties in Wattlefield.
Am I being a little cagey about the 'new development' wording? Are the people trying to sell these vastly overpriced (in my opinion) houses on Bunwell road now concerned enough to apply pressure on the Broadband supplier to help sales of their houses........
property value is relative to what someone is prepared to pay. Stupid comments like yours just shouts jelous, something people who buy or sell property in that price bracket will be perfectly used to and will either not care or actively will enjoy.
Development in our village will have negative points but also positive points for all of us, you can’t have everythibg your own way. BT will need to increase capacity to provide for the new houses, but a side benefit will be we all get upgraded, remember it wasn’t so long ago people were saying we would never get fast broadband because it wasn’t worth the while of BT to install it, well now it is, so be happy.
I don't think the "cagey" comment is stupid or jealous. No one wants to buy a new property with rubbish broadband, so if the houses are not selling then that comment could be correct.

Totally agree, cagey is not stupid or jealous. However, referring to somebody’s property as overpriced is. It is deliberately contentious and rude. Broadband speed is not that important to some people, and if it is important several alternatives are available, as you well know.
If you're going to fork out a colossal sum for a house you should expect fast broadband now. The new houses being built are ultra modern houses using what appear to be top quality fittings and are all show. They are clearly built to attract those from richer areas of the country who are fed up with what they have been forced to put up with and want to get away for a quieter life. Spooner Row is certainly not the place to come if you want a quiet life as things are developing rapidly here. The new houses are stuck in an old fashioned location with no infrastructure, lorries storming past, congestion and appalling road surfaces. Have you seen the state of Station Road? There are far better value houses elsewhere and closer to Norwich with considerably faster broadband connections. Fast broadband IS an essential requirement, especially for the elderly and families. Do you think these new houses will be occupied by elderly couples who don't need/use the Internet and just sit there doing tapestries all day whilst talking on the phone? Get real. Ask their grandchildren when they visit! What are these alternatives that are available in the village for faster broadband? How fast are they? All I'm aware of are those that constantly disconnect. At least the copper is reliably slow but only capable of doing the most basic of things and almost nothing in a multi-user household.

cant see what the problem is as the person said it was their opinion on the new estate, not contentious and rude at all
