NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL proposes to make a Temporary Traffic Order affecting the C140 Station Road from its junction with U78284 School Lane for a distance of 122 metres south eastwards in the TOWN OF WYMONDHAM (SPOONER ROW) because of a Drainage Scheme & Surfacing Scheme by NCC.
The road will be temporarily closed (except for access) from 2nd August 2018 to 13th September 2018 for the duration of the works, expected to be 43 days within the period.
The person dealing with enquiries at Norfolk County Council is Adam Mayo (Community and Environmental Services) Telephone 0344 800 8020.
Thanks Julian. The school autumn term starts on 3rd September and this will clash with the roadworks in operation up to 13th Sept. I thought they were going to do all the drainage work during the school holidays to reduce highway problems?
This may rectify the drainage problem/blockage caused a few years ago by the automation of the level crossing, but this will not address the other flood issues throughout the village.
Maybe with the new re surfacing of Station Road being imminent it would be a good time to find out if the heavy good vehicles could be re routed as they , according to the highways dept , are the cause of road surface damage and drainage collapse .The road was never capable of taking heavy goods vehicles again according to the Highway dept.
Do you mean re routed permanently or while the work is carried out ?
Let me ask you a question, most people know where RJM Commerials etc are, most know where Newalls are, same goes for Banham Poultry, just three of the HGV providers, how would they get to the A11 from their locations if station road wasn’t available ?
Yes re route permanently . When I first move to village 23 years ago there were virtually no HGVs going through village now it is crazy. Not sure the answer to your question without investigation but am concerned that when Station road is re surfaced and new drains are put in the road will be carved up in no time. I have had contact with the Highways dept over resent years and they have always said that the road foundations and surface are for general light traffic only . I can see a nice job being done at all our expense and it being wrecked by traffic load . I hope I am wrong !!
I don’t think that is a solution, it merely moves the problem to other people.
What you need to understand is, two of the already mentioned businesses have no planning to be there, so technically no council will recognise their traffic as it shouldn’t exist. As others have said before ring Breckland and complain about the lack of enforcement. It’s allowing companies that have diabolical access to a main road that’s the problem, RJM states it has (edited) access to the A11, who writes this stuff?

Firms with large goods vehicles should be located on industrial sites with close and easy access to trunk roads as anything other then this has an impact on residents. For example, RJM states it is just 5 minutes from the main A11, its vehicles, unfortunately, have to drive through this village, passing close to all the village amenities including the primary school.
We would rather it did not become someone else's problem if HGV's were to be redirected through Attleborough and Besthorpe, but we don't want it to continue being our problem either. This situation should be addressed, and not ignored by the councils and enforcement.
I agree a resurfacing of Station Road is not a solution to the poorly constructed road.
Well if that diversion doesn’t show the Highways people haven’t a clue about the trafffic that uses station road I don’t know what does. How on earth are two HGVs going to pass each other on that road.
When are they going to empty the recycling bins in School Lane? We've been waiting since last Wednesday (now Monday the following week). Traffic can still access the road including agricultural vehicles. There is no excuse for this.
Top Common and Queen Street have become the expected whacky races rat run.
Traffic is speeding making it dangerous for pedestrians and dog walkers not to mention perilous getting in/out our driveway. The limit may be 30mph but surely 20mph is plenty on single track roads passing driveways and people/animals on foot?
Some numbskull has moved the diversion sign at the junction opposite the slip road to direct traffic down Top common. Boy racers of both genders are screaming down this road and it certainly is not a route permitted for HGV of any description.
IT IS NOT THE APPROVED DIVERSION ROUTE and yes us locals know about it but can we ensure we respect to residents of Queen st and Top common and force those tailgaters and BRacers drive at a sensible 20 MPH by driving at that speed ourselves
Thers is also a 30 MPH limit on Chapel road and in the village for those who are already adding to the traffic load from Wymondham via Suton lane but you would never know
Already seen several close shaves and numeorus individuals who despite driving past two road closed signs in both ends of Station road suddenly realise that the road IS closed and so they try to make up for lost time and turn round anywhere they can. They will eventually learn I suppose.
I would move the diversion route back to where it should be. No one bothers around here to do the job properly, who checks the diversion signs? Let's hope there is not an accident caused by it.
The traffic which is being experienced by Chapel Road, Queen Street and Top Common is what Bunwell Road & Station Road have Day in Day out. It's a nightmare isn't it!

I don't agree - it is actually WORSE for Bunwell Road and Station Road because you haven't included the constant stream of HGV's. I agree about it being a nightmare!
I have spoken to contractors regarding the new surface to road in Station Road . It will not be heavy duty it will be a standard road surface . Interesting to see how long it will last after the HGV's have had a go at it . BTW is has been nice not having the noise of banging HGV's along our road , if only it was permanent .
it is so much better and safer without the HGVs. What route are they taking now? Why can't they continue on that alternative route especially as the new road surface is just going to be the standard tarmac and not heavy duty?
I am astonished at the clear stupidity of some drivers! What is difficult about TWO road signs that BOTH say 'road closed' only for them to be ignored , like speed limits I suppose!
Every day I see cars and lorries try to drive round the barriers to realise that the road is actually closed and then they use ANY resident's drive to turn around in like it is their fault .
It is inconsiderate and a tad arrogant to say the least
I would just like to say that , yes there has been at least one accident on Chapel Road/Suton Lane albeit it minor-though quite expensive to repair. My husband pulled in very tight to the hedging-all sensors going mental- because there was a 4x4 speeding along towards us, however our being stationary wasn’t as effective as it should have been and it collided with our wing mirror and just carried on speeding off in the direction it was traveling. Not impressed, electric mirrors are not cheap. Cars etc travelling along there seem to think it’s a one way speed track. Anyone else had this problem?
This road is very narrow and you always have to give way and pull over etc. With this diversion and road closure it's a nightmare as they are a lot of people using the Road who don't know the road and yes I agree seem to go full pelt!
I have lost two mirrors along this road over the years by people speeding down the road - both carried on to!
The lower section of resurfacing was completed at 18.45 today.
The mid section from the crossing to the junction of School Lane will be completed on Tuesday.
The final section from the junction of School Lane to the Village Gateway will be completed on Thursday.
May I suggest that those wanting to drop off for school approach from the bottom of Station Road (the 5-ways) and then park on the left just before the crossing gates. This will then allow motorists to use the railway car park to turn around easily and then continue their journeys.
I have been informed that the small granite chippings on the road surface in School Lane (that are mobile underfoot), are going to be mechanically swept within the next week or so. The surface dressing of asphalt won't be done for a couple of years.
