Had two large copper effect lanterns with candles stolen from my doorstep on Bunwell Road on Saturday night no Very upset as they held sentimental value. If anyone spots them abandoned or is offered them for sale, I'd really love to have them back. Only recently moved to SR and it's really tainted my impression of the village. Can't believe people would actually come in to my porch to take what's not theirs disbelief

So sorry this has happened, there has been quite a lot happen over the past couple of years lately. I very much doubt it would be someone within the village so please don't have a bad opinion on the village. (...edited...)

Oh look. New people in the village have bad opinion of existing villagers because they leave valuable items on doorstep next to main road, which if you think about it, would be clearly seen by ANYONE coming into, or going out of said village.

Posts that say or imply that it is your fault for leaving such items on the doorstep are to be frank extremely unhelpful. This post is about trying to recover them and ask  for any help that might trace the barstewards who did this and is not an opportunity to have a go at a distraught owner (ex)

If the anon posts had a amazon delivery parcel and that had been half inched you might feel differently about this , I would hope.

The real message here is get nosey , ask if someone is hanging around and looking suspicious and take reg numbers of vehicles parked where they should not be, noting the time.

A community village is about looking after our own because sadly the Police are very under resourced but make it easy for them and you might get a positive response.

Actually Julian you are not quite right.

the message should be - take responsibility for your own poor decisions and not blame the village you move to. It is not the original village or villagers fault you chose to display valuable and sentimentally significant items unprotected in full view next to a main road. I agree it should not have been stolen and the people who took it are bad people, but the fact remains, use your brain. I am not implying it is your fault, I am outright saying it is partially your fault.

If amazon made the poor decision to send a package via a courier who abandons a package in full sight of a main road without obtaining a signature and it is stolen then it is their problem, and they have to , and will refund you or replace the item. So actually I probably wouldn’t care apart from the minor inconvenience of having to wait a bit longer.

part of the reason the Police are so busy (apart from the drastic under resourcing and cuts) is so much time is wasted by people who simply do not think.

Really sorry they've been taken.

And I'm very sorry about the victim blaming in this thread. If we want to show we're a welcoming village, we could start here by showing a bit more sympathy and a little less rudeness on this forum.

I don't think anyone is 'victim blaming' and am sorry that you think they are. I am also sorry the lanterns were stolen. Have you been to see Luboo to see what you can do to help?

That was my interpretation, but often these things can be misinterpreted on message forums!

To get back on topic, I’ll keep an eye out for them and hope they turn up. It‘s a shame that thieves are around, I’ve been thinking about getting a video doorbell to at least catch them on video if they try anything with us. Might be a deterrence at least!
