Dear All

Since we split away from Wymondham Town we have not had the use of the SAM machine advising persons entering the village that they might be speeding

Can you please advise that you are happy with this proposal and identify for us preferred locations BUT have to get highways approval for any we identify.

The miniimum is three locations where the unit rotates between them , to improve effectiveness although one location can count as two if the unit is simply spun around

Importantly we can get assistance with funding from county for this but there is a time limit

Once we have some suggested locations I will arrange for a Highways engineer plus the unit provider to attend (free)

Approval to spend of course will be needed by the council

The only slight complication is that the Chapel road development as you leave the village going to Wymondham on the right hand side  is due to have a seperate  unit provided by the developer as part of the development proposal so we obviously would not need a location at that end

The units at this time can record speed the raw number of speeding breaches, the total  and times but it is not an enforcement camera

That said it can advise when it might be best for enforcement officers, who can issue tickets to attend.

Perhaps the car that regularly speeds through the village in the early morning from Wymondham on the way to wherever should note

This would be great if the village could get one of these. Locations could be on Station Road just before the level crossing heading towards the school as cars / lorries (especially Newalls)/ trucks / tractors all seem to gather speed before launching off the crossing, near the school / village hall and on Bunwell Road near the chicane. Also from reading some comments on these pages could Chepore lane also benefi. If Chapel Lane is going to get one from the developer then this area could be left from this proposal. From my own personal point of view I would definitely like something in place on Station Road by the level crossing as this does seem to be where many seem to think that the faster you cross the better! Is there any chance of also resurrecting the community speed watch scheme as both myself and Viv would be willing to assist with this.

The speed limits on London road except very close to Wymondham is 60 MPH and they would as a matter of course not be provided there. If we could get a speed limit imposed on the London road in Suton in our patch , becuase some of London road is in still in Wymondham, then we could do so ad there are proposals to look and ask for this in the future.

As part of the Gunvill Hall development they will be roundabout where Bradenhams lane meets London road and this will inevitably slow traffic down so we need to keep this under review and in conjunction with Wymondham Town and Highways

The speed limit on London Road is primarily 60 MPH and as such a SAM2 could not be used.

A new roundabout at Bradman’s Lane will form part of the Gonville Hall development.  This will slow traffic down at this point but is likely to have little effect past Morley Lane.  The Community Council should write to Norfolk Highways and ask that they look to review the zoning of speed limits and the individual speed limits from Abbey Road roundabout to Besthorpe roundabout.

Thank you to Anonymous for a grammatically correct response to the earlier post. I was also pleased to see that the earlier misspelling of both Gonville Hall and Bradman’s Lane had not been repeated.

It has been suggested to me that the proposal to install a SAM 2 speeding device somewhere in the villages was not made clear in the original post.

That is the proposal under consideration please

Lay down guilty to Bradmans lane missing spelling but in my defence was simply quoting from the application for this development in regard to Gonville Hall or is it Gunvill Hall? where it was indeed listed as Gunvill.

I would also draw your attention ANON to the essay on the topographical history of the county of Norfolk on page 530 where Gunvill hall is mentioned , with that spelling, interestingly near Windham, with that spelling. Not a typo..... so what is correct ?  A Google search for Gunvill hall picks this up immediately

However as long as people know where we are talking about I think that is all that matters

Definitely the Bunwell Road chicane...or anywhere within the village on Bunwell Road. It’ll hopefully save my death stares, shaking of fists...and possibly someone’s life 😉.

This matter will be discussed at the next parish( community ) council meeting and I am hopeful of a positive outcome. If you have concerns or wish to express views please do attend

How about Suton Street where people think that, because it is a long straight road, they can use it as a drag racing strip. Young children play on this road, including mine, and i don't want to lose any of them to some d@#khead doing 70 for a laugh or seeing how quick they can go 0 to 60.

Dear Daz if we get approval for this unit then there is nothing to stop us adding new location sites if we get highways approval.
