The new path outside Folliard's is a great improvement and long overdue. Thanks.

Thanks need to go to Robert Foster, who has been developing a relationship with highways.  He asked them to do this when he found out they were carrying out the other resurfacing work on the junction near The Boars.  This was a similar opportunity to asking them to put the path and posts near the school last time highways were doing kerb work on Station Road.

Thank you Stephen for telling us who put the work in for this new pavement.

I can now see that our new Council is working hard for us.

I had seen Robert and a colleague putting up the new dog bin by the bench.  Please pass on my thanks for his continued work for the village.

I will pass your thanks on, it is nice when people appreciate those who are volunteering their own time to make a difference For everyone.

It was Neil Griffin who has been helping Robert with the new dog waste bins.  Still one more to go up in Suton, once highways straighten a post for us over there.  We also have two new litter bins to install and have just voted in the purchase of our own community SAM2 speed sign, which we will moved around various locations across Suton and Spooner Row.  It can only be sited within the 30 mph limits, hence no where in Wattlefield unfortunately.  The sign as well as warning motorists of their speed, will also log the speeds for us, which will allow us to collect evidence towards a safety case for more possible measure to combat speeding vehicles.  If we have repeat offenders at certain items of the day we can also pass this to the police so they can target the individuals.

Let us not forget there are many unsung locals who volunteer their time for the community such as those who are involved with the village hall, church and school. I'd like to thank them also.

My original comment was actually aimed at thanking the Highways team. It's great the parish council got this moving and thanks to them too, but that is what they were voted in to do. Highways need to sort out the rest of the path on Station Road. Two Lorries are unable to pass without mounting the pavement as the road isn't wide enough. Highways should be expected to sort this out as they are paid for by our taxes. Station Road should never have been designated as an HGV route. There are perfectly good alternatives, as we saw when the road was closed recently.

The worse highway area is between the village hall and the school where there is now a pavement on both sides of the road making the road narrower. The new length of pavement was built as part of The Ridings housing development and the authorities should have taken into consideration the existing problems of Station Road and the HGV route.

Last week I had to share the pavement with a heavy construction vehicle. There was congestion and a queue at the level crossing, the construction vehicle mounted the pavement via one dropped kerb and drove back down on another. This was the only way two lorries could pass each other. The older tarmac pavement is uneven, damaged and cracked in lots of places because of the HGV's.
