Just had a call (8.05pm) from BT Engineer Dan to tell me that my telephone line is back. We lost service last night just after 6pm. Dan went on to tell me that some 200 numbers are impacted and they are working to re-establish these lines after a serious fault was found in a nearby cable duct. Fibre broadband remains up and running.
Our telephone line went down about the same time, an earth fault I believe. The engineer said they will be back to work on the other fault area tomorrow morning (Sunday).
Just spoken to BT about the telephone line as it comes up on their web site as no fault on the line. The agent told me that it's a bad time of the year for repairs, but should be back online by the 30th December. Yes the 30th!!
Getting fed up now - the third time this year for us!
Although on the plus side (along with no mobile signal) is that the M-I-L can't bend my ear about anything and we can't be drawn in to the usual family Christmas dramas.
Areas remain with no phone line whatsoever and BT seems to be dishing out mixed messages along the lines of everything is fine !? to there is a problem which we might get around to on the 30th.
This must be the second or third time this year that several telephone lines have been down for a number of days. It seems to happen when there is a lot of rain or other bad weather. Maybe the communications infrastructure should be upgraded rather than just repaired as the repairs don't seem to last that long. People in Norwich look at me in disbelief when I tell them about the sporadic infrastructure here. Still, we are on the A11 Technology Corridor!
It's a disgrace that parts of the village haven't had a working phone line over Christmas and beyond. Has it been repaired yet? I hope no elderly and vulnerable people have been put at risk.
