My friend taped an old plastic milk bottle with a front opening in it to a lamppost by a local park. This has had a good reaction and people do take the dog bags .............. and use them ! We fill up the container as and when it is empty. Perhaps something like this would help? I hope so.
Picking up after your dog comes with being an owner! Being a responsible dog owner this arrogant behaviour makes me so cross 😡. I wouldn’t dream of taking my dog out without a pocket full of poo bags.
Due to the instance of dog walkers not picking up dog waste on the playing field, the Community Council debated at our last Council meeting the benefit of purchasing a single dog waste bag dispenser to be sited in an appropriate location on the Spooner Row playing field. From researching suppliers of public area quality bag dispensers, the minimum total cost for purchase and installation was determined to be no more than £150.00 and an annual budget requirement of £105.00 to replace the bags, at a usage rate of 6 bags per day.
The Council considered whether or not the issue was caused just by inconsiderate behaviour, or whether it could also be as a result of dog walkers not having brought a waste bag with them or using up more than they were expecting. The benefits of trying to remove the obvious health hazard on the playing field, which is frequently used by both adults and children, was not disputed. The issues which may arise if the Council installed a bag dispenser were debated, with some Councillors putting forward a perspective from experience of a similar dispenser being purchased for The Lizard in Wymondham, which was subsequently removed. The issues raised were:
·Residents may become reliant on the dispenser rather than bring their own bags, therefore increasing annual costs.
·If residents do become reliant on the dispenser and due to the size of the paying field, it is likely that everyone will take a bag every time they enter the field regardless off whether or not they need one.
·If the dispensers are used extensively, rather than as an emergency facility, they would have to be checked regularly, possibly daily or a minimum of weekly. With no council staff, checking and refilling the dispenser may prove unreliable if just done by volunteers. If not checked regularly then the dispenser may run out of bags, which could result in more dog waste on the playing field if residents become reliant on the supply, but find the dispenser empty.
·Ultimately if the dog waste issues is caused by inconsiderate residents then the dispenser may not solve the issues.
On balance, and based on the experience of a similar scheme which was rolled out on The Lizard, the Council voted unanimously not to install a dog waste bag dispenser. We therefore hope as a Community that we can self police the playing field by asking those who have been inconsiderate to clear up their dog waste.
Thank you to the majority of you who are picking up your dog’s waste and placing it in the red dog waste bin by the carpark. Please though if you do pick up waste do not put it in the litter bins.
I am sad to say that whoever is still putting their dog poo, albeit in bags in the litter bin, by the childrens play area . This contaminates the waste stream and prevents any form of recycling and as Stephen has pointed out, we have a red bin, which is specifically for dog poo as it has to be incinerated approx 50 yards from the litter bin
I have yesterday removed all the dog poo bags , put them in the red bin and have purchased two signs asking polititely that it NOT be used for the disposal l of dog poo.
I have used some of your precept money to pay for these signs.
The response has been that someone has turned the bin around so the signs are not visible. I have turned the bin around so they are visible again
Continuance of this behaviour and deposition of dog waste in the LITTER bin will result in my petitioning the council to remove the bin altogether.
I am sure it is probably just one or maybe a couple of dog owners who are doing this but it will ultimately disadvantage the whole community and thank you to those of you who are disposing of the waste correctly
Hi sorry to link this subject onto the dog fouling,it is sort of relevent.
On our many walks through spooner row at the moment ,when you exit the playing field in the corner where the old cricket building used to be.There is a sleeper that you walk across to get back onto the road.
Just wondering if it is a council responsibility or not as it’s now badly worn and dangerous.doesnt bother us but just worry for someone maybe not so sure footed etc.
just wondered if it is possible to replace with a new sleeper?
Thanks for reporting the sleeper. The Council is aware and has discussed that it needs replacing or removing. If anyone knows of a good supplier of used or new sleepers and/or are willing to help with its replacement please email clerk@spoonerrow.cc or telephone the Council on 01953 304 401
Well done...... the dumping of dog waste has stopped in the big black bin by the play area...well so far at least. The good news
The bad news is that whoever has now decided to put them in the small green refuse bin 5 yards from the red dog waste bin instead, which is behaviour so anti social as to warrant and justify removal of all bins so they are are forced to take any waste home with them and recycle it when appropriate and put it in their own black or green bin.
Sadly whoever obviously has a mind set which no doubt will simply justify them dumping it on the ground, which is of course an offence .
If you see someone doing this deliberate contamination of the waste let us know. Do not approach them but if the have a car note the reg number or if you can safely follow them and note where they live.
Why some people engage in this moronic behaviour including flytipping is beyond me. It is your community please look after it
After some quiet months, the practice of putting full dog poo bags into the litter bin by the small play area is happening again rather than put the bags in the designated bin by the five bar gate all of 50 yards away .
The matter will be discussed at the next Community council meeting with a proposal that the bin be removed altogether
