The Council has been informed by the School that the flint wall between it and the small child play area is unsafe due to damage caused by ivy. Removal of the ivy earlier today showed that the pointing had deteriorated and flints were loose, making the wall unstable.
Works to remedy the damage will be completed as soon as possible in order to minimise the closure time.
During the course of works to repoint the walled area of the small children’s play park it was discovered that there are stability issues that need to be addressed. With immediate effect this area will be closed off until the works are completed. The works will be completed as soon as possible to minimise the closure time.
Is it a coincidence that the childrens play area is closed, and the new school path in their play area goes right up too the playground fence. And the school want a bit of the field for extension. Or am I being a bit cynical?
Yes, I believe you are. The wall is clearly dangerous and the new path is being built to provide wheelchair access for a new student joining the school in September.
I'm curious, who paid for the new wheelchair access to the school? The council, the school or Enrich?
It isn't a surprise that David and others feel cynical. We dont know what is going on with the playing field. The minutes from May and June can not be found on the councils website or any other details.
I agree that there could be more transparency from the council and this fuels speculation and cynicism, but a cursory glance at the wall shows that nothing sinister is afoot. The wall is clearly dangerous. Regarding the access path, I don’t know the answer to your question, I am just happy that a disabled child is getting what he needs.
Who wouldn't be pleased to help a disabled child get access to school? Enough virtue signalling. The council should stop beating around the bush and just let us know when the school will take over a large portion of the playing field. How's that for cynicism, or do I mean realism?
By 'negative comments' I presume you mean having a different view to your own. Nobody has provided an answer to the fact that the slow takeover in stages of our playing field by the school seems to be going full steam ahead without any consultation or debate. The overall objective is ...(edited)...... School expansion will lead to more housing developments. .....(edited)........ If I'm being 'negative' by not wanting this to happen, that's fine by me.

Why will increasing the space the school currently has, lead to more housing development?
We have too much already !
The changes are only to cope with existing under provision and to do nothing risks losing it altogether and by improving the space it will help keep the school in the village. There is no planned expansion on numbers that I am aware of as the building is already over capacity.
I believe there is lots of debate going on but until we know what we all know what is being proposed why does the council need to consult, as I am sure in THIS instance they will , although I have to say a full consultation can be very expensive to do and what is the point of having elected representatives if they have ask everyone, everytime they make a decision, for public approval ?
Clearly you are opposed to anything pretty much ( why and real reasons please ?) but I bet if you ask the school mums what they think regarding what maybe a small increase in space, in terms of numbers, you will be in a tiny minority.
Shouting the loudest is not good decision making and neither is it democracy
We have received an update from the School to say that works to repair the unsafe wall will start proper on 6th September and are expected to last for 7 days.
It has regretfully become apparent that much more work than was orginally envisaged was and has become necessary to stabilise the wall on safety grounds.
I apologise for the loss of this amenity to the community but I hope you agree with me safety has to take priority and the school and their contractors are working as fast as they can to resolve the issues.

So when is the play area to be reopened? It closed in the middle of August and its now October, when will I be able to visit the swings with my granddaughter?
Failure to remove ivy from the wall and general lack of past maintenance by the school. The stems of the ivy got between the 2 brick skins and forced them apart making the wall unsafe. They added new brick pillars, repaired the existing pillars and repointed. The lad did a tidy job. I bet the school wont let the ivy grow up like they did before, cause it must have cost them.
The Council was informed late yesterday by the School that the works to repair the flint wall between it and the small child play area have now been fully completed.
