The Community Council are just finalising the details of two events which will be held on Thursday 2nd June. we are aiming to publicise information on these events within the next 7-10 days.
As a community council we will be having our own event on the playing field. Details in a newsletter will follow shortly
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee: South Norfolk
South Norfolk Council is looking forward to celebrating the Queens Platinum Jubilee Year throughout 2022 and has formulated a number of ways to celebrate this unprecedented milestone which are detailed below.
Alongside the national celebrations https://platinumjubilee.gov.uk/events/, there are a range of County base tributes planned and arranged by the Deputy Lieutenants of Norfolk. Details of these are available here Home - Platinum Jubilee Norfolk. Members of the public can also register their own event on this website and promote it for free.
Here in the District we have a range of tributes planned to celebrate:
Raising the Flag
On 6th February the Chairman raised the flag at South Norfolk House to mark the start of the Jubilee year. This will be done again on Thursday 2nd June to kick off the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend.
Lighting of the Beacons
The Chairman of the Council will be attending a local event where a beacon will be lit as part of the national tributes on the evening of 2nd June. The Council is providing safety advice and guidance for residents in the district who are planning to hold their own beacon lighting event.
Royal Oaks
To mark the Platinum Jubilee, the Chairman for 2022/23, Cllr James Easter will be planting seven Oak trees in locations across the district, all of which will be registered as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. These long standing legacies will continue a tradition within the district and join trees planted for the Queen’s coronation and previous jubilees. These will be recorded and residents are invited to visit the sites.
The Big Lunch
Formally taking place on Sunday 5th June, the Big Lunch is an opportunity for communities to come together to celebrate the Jubilee in the form of a street party or similar. To enable and support this, the Council have provided grants to Town and Parish Councils alongside safety guidance and advice. These events are varied and will take place across the whole bank holiday period. Grants of £300 are offered to town councils, and £200 to parish councils and meetings – one per council, and details have sent to clerks in February.
The Jubilee Treasure Hunt
Over the Summer holidays and beyond, residents and visitors will be able to take part in the Council’s bespoke Jubilee Treasure Hunt. Residents are invited to purchase a trail book and use it when visiting sites across the district to solve clues and uncover hidden mysteries. Users will be encouraged to spend an afternoon by Diss Mere, enjoy an ice-cream and test themselves with the fun puzzles. On a different day, take a stroll around Wymondham, visit the historic sites and treat themselves to tea and cakes whilst unpicking the clever clues hidden in the Town.
South Norfolk Council creates Jubilee Trails to provide a lasting legacy
The Council in partnership with Norfolk County Council’s Trails Team are working to provide Platinum Jubilee walking and cycling trails in the district. Celebrating our beautiful countryside whilst provide an opportunity to explore and to commute in a greener way, keep an eye out for the launch of these routes during the Jubilee summer.
