You will need to take along a photo ID to vote at the polling station for the local elections taking place on 4th May. Anyone without a photo ID can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate from 16th January. For more information see:

This change , which is completely unwarranted is basically a Trumpism to disqualify the younger voter from voting. Yes it is, as whilst older person bus passes and oyster cards whilst being identical to the younger ones ARE acceptable, the younger versions are not!

Younger people already fed up with politics will simply not bother

There was a VERY small fraction of alleged fraud cases in the UK , ONE YES ONE case in the whole country  at a polling station and as voters over 70 are three times more likely to vote Tory than young people, this is blatant gerrymandering and more voter supression to tip the balance to the tories.

The Lords asked for an amendment to include other forms of ID, bank statements , library cards and student ID etc which were all thrown out by the commons when the legislation was returned to the commons which is now :Law

The Voter id card system has already broken, is deliberately underfunded and works in very few cases and South Norfolk council are already sounding the alarm .

Already there is a requirement for extra staff at polling stations to allow women muslims to show their whole face behind a screen to a female, and there is real concern that election staff will be under threat of violence when they insist, as they must, on acceptable voter id. The police will not be able to cope and have said so at a recent workshop held in Wymondham.

My only advice for dealing with this FIASCO is get a postal vote and do that NOW. South Norfolk are already under pressure to deal with this trying to convince councillors to get this message out. Of course a certain party is not bothering

This is a disgrace and further evidence of a party running scared witless that they will lose power at the next GE.

Calls to postpone, by the Electoral commission NO LESS  have been completely dismissed by Government ministers who want to stay ministers

This is from the Gov website and details the requirements of the photo and assumes you have a computer to download the form and some premises nearby to do an acceptable photo with the following stringent requirements

it also assumes you have a printer

if you have no NI number there is a whole list of forms you need to submit to be accepted

Your digital photo must be:

• clear and in focus

• in colour

• against a plain, light-coloured background

• your true likeness, with no photoshop or filters

• at least 600×750 pixels

• JPG, PNG or GIF format — min 50KB, max 20MB

In your photo you must:

• face forwards, looking straight at the camera

• be alone, with no other objects or people

• have a plain expression

• have eyes open and visible, with no hair in front of them

• not wear sunglasses, but normal glasses are fine if you typically wear them

• not have a head covering (apart from religious or medical reasons)

• not have ‘red-eye’, glare or shadows over your face

National Insurance number

You can still apply without one, but may get your Voter Authority Certificate quicker if you provide it.

If you do not want to apply online, print, fill in and return a paper form to your local Electoral Registration Office. They can also offer general application help.

Is there anything wrong with this page?

Application help

Get help applying from your local Electoral Registration Office.

Continue your application on paper

If you cannot (or do not want to) apply online, you can download the paper application form (PDF). Print and complete this in black pen, then send it to your local Electoral Registration Office.

Is there anything wrong with this page?

yes there is plenty wrong with this page as it makes some massive assumptions re on line links, computer and I have told them that !

I think many feel that way, but you do need to vote.

I'm not sure how true this is but there are whispers that online digital IDs will be brought in this year by administrative alterations to the 2017 Digital Economy Act rather than as a new Act that would have been debated in Parliament. Online IDs would be for data and information sharing between Governmental departments, councils, police, health, etc rather than a physical ID.

As already mentioned, a photo ID for voting as identification verification is completely unwarranted. Perhaps people should speak out more about this.

you then agree to keeping the status quo ! Is that what you want and are you happy with that ?

Those in power love that attitude

im my opinion, its about young people, our future. i have 6 children and its hard enough as it is, to get them to vote. Its Liberal & green party's that will loose out, as lots of younger people i know prefer them.

I know you can do it online, but they just seem less interested in politics nowadays. Is it due to what has happened over the last few years?

how many years have we all been voting with the current format?

Crazy World
