Subject: Important roadworks information: A11 Wymondham Bypass
A11 Wymondham Bypass Junctions lighting upgrade
I’m writing to tell you that, as part of our effort to cut carbon emissions from roadside lighting we’ll be upgrading the lights on the A11 Wymondham bypass to LED.
LED lights are better for the environment and use far less energy to produce the same amount of light. They also last longer and require less maintenance meaning fewer road closures to fix lighting in the future.
The upgrade to LED lighting has been carefully planned to coincide with the existing concrete renewal scheme on the A11, where possible, so we can avoid additional disruption to drivers, communities and businesses while carrying out this work.
The work will take place at the junctions of Tuttles Lane, Browick Road and Spooner Row Interchanges from Monday 16 January 2023 and is being carried out in two phases so we can ensure the safety of our workers and all road users.
Phase one will take place between Monday 16 January and Tuesday 28 March 2023, and will upgrade the A11 streetlights on:
• the northbound entry and exit slip roads, plus the southbound entry slip at Tuttles Lane Interchange
• the northbound exit slip road at Browick Road
• the northbound entry and exit slip roads at Spooner Row.
For the safety of our workers and motorists, we will need to have overnight road closures on the northbound entry and exit slip roads, plus the southbound entry slip at Tuttles Lane from Monday 16 January until Friday 17 February. The closures will be on weeknights only, from 8pm to 6am. A fully signed diversion route will be in place – please see the next section for more information.
To keep disruption to a minimum, the streetlights at Browick Road and Spooner Row will be replaced use the existing A11 concrete road reconstruction roadworks.
Diversions
During the overnight closures of Tuttles Lane Interchange, northbound traffic from Wymondham will need to use the B1172 through Hethersett to access the A11 at Thickthorn Interchange.
To access the A11 southbound, traffic will need to use the B1172 and join the A11 at Spooner Row Interchange.
Please note that the dates and times of this work may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. Future work
Our second phase of work, which includes replacing streetlights on the remaining slip roads and over-passes at Browick Road and Spooner Row Interchanges, will take place in autumn 2023. More details will be sent out by letter and will be available on the website closer to the time.

The A11 Tuttles Lane to Spooner Row Interchange reconstruction scheme seems to be an enormous project. Meanwhile the potholes along London Road B1172 are getting worse and appear every few meters.
